Radiography, Medical Imaging, Medical Radiation Science, involves the applied science of ionising and non-ionising medical imaging technologies. This field involves the technical operation of specialised scanning machines, such as X-ray, CT, or MRI, which produce images of the inside of the body, which are then clinically analysed by radiologists and other specialist doctors. Medical Imaging is integral to diagnose medical conditions and injuries, to guide treatment and to assess a patient’s response to treatment. This field falls under the expanded healthcare science field of Physical Sciences and Biomedical engineering, incorporating diagnostic radiography, therapeutic radiography (or radiotherapy), Nuclear Medicine and Medical Physics. Sonography is an extended specialisation which uses Ultrasound technology to generate medical imaging.
