A-Z OF SERVICES

Radiography, Medical Imaging, Medical Radiation Science, involves the applied science of ionising and non-ionising medical imaging technologies. This field involves the technical operation of specialised scanning machines, such as X-ray, CT, or MRI, which produce images of the inside of the body, which are then clinically analysed by radiologists and other specialist doctors. Medical Imaging is integral to diagnose medical conditions and injuries, to guide treatment and to assess a patient’s response to treatment. This field falls under the expanded healthcare science field of Physical Sciences and Biomedical engineering, incorporating diagnostic radiography, therapeutic radiography (or radiotherapy), Nuclear Medicine and Medical Physics. Sonography is an extended specialisation which uses Ultrasound technology to generate medical imaging.

Radiography Jobs

Radiographers perform scans on people of all ages and provide critical medical imaging services which help doctors identify conditions and inform treatment and care. Radiographers work in hospital radiology departments, nuclear medicine departments, medical laboratories, private practices and community clinics. They work in multidisciplinary teams and in collaboration with other medical and science teams, such as those in oncology, medical physics, or orthopaedics. They may be involved in quality assurance and safety processes. Diagnostic Radiographers focus on providing diagnostic medical imaging services, while Therapeutic Radiographers help to treat cancer using radiotherapy techniques. Radiographers have undertaken an approved degree or a masters/postgraduate study in either diagnostic radiography, or radiotherapy, or alternatively a degree apprenticeship, and are registered with the HCPC.
