Out of hours / urgent care Salaried GP £90,500 to £100,750 per annum £10,056 to £11,194 per session (Plus rate enhancements for evening and weekend working).

We operate eight urgent care centres in Manchester, Preston, Chorley and Oldham, with dedicated Out Of Hours and telephony services ran from our Digital Clinical Hub in Denton, Manchester as well as Home Visiting Services in Merseyside.

Main duties of the job

As part of the multi-disciplinary gtd healthcare team, to deliver primary medical care in line with current evidence based best practice during the hours of operation dependent on the service area and contractual requirements. This may be via telephone triage or face to face assessment in a range of treatment locations or patients homes across our contract areas.

  • Provide timely clinical care to gtd healthcare Out Of Hours patients in the form of advice or face to face consultation. This may be at our Denton Main Base, satellite bases, a gtd healthcare treatment centre or on home visits.
  • To ensure that where appropriate, the patient is referred for further management with the relevant service, e.g. secondary care specialities, community services.
  • Work with colleagues to maximise effective and efficient delivery of care to patients.
  • Provide clinical advice to both internal and external other staff as required (e.g. Lead Senior Clinical Practitioner, Senior Care Co-ordinator, Triage Nurses, other GPs, District Nurses)
  • To contribute to the training and development of Clinical and non-clinical staff, e.g. GP registrars, Trainee Advanced Practitioners, Paramedics.
  • Support locally developed urgent care pathways and community alternatives to admission, e.g. DVT service, Alternative to Transfer (ATT/PATS) Scheme with NWAS.
  • To support streaming of patients to or from co-located A&E services.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Provide timely clinical care to gtd healthcare Out Of Hours patients in the form of advice or face to face consultation. This may be at our Denton Main Base, satellite bases, a gtd healthcare treatment centre or on home visits.

To ensure that where appropriate, the patient is referred for further management with the relevant service, e.g. secondary care specialities, community services.

To proactively communicate with the Lead Senior Clinical Practitioner and Senior Care Coordinators to ensure the smooth running of the shift.

To be responsible for prioritisation and timeliness of all consultations assigned to the shift.

Work with colleagues to maximise effective and efficient delivery of care to patients.

To work within the prescribing formulary, taking account of the minimum length of prescribed treatment.

Provide clinical advice to both internal and external other staff as required (e.g. Lead Senior Clinical Practitioner, Senior Care Co-ordinator, Triage Nurses, other GPs, District Nurses)

Represent gtd healthcare in a professional manner when in contact with the general public and other professionals.

To contribute to the training and development of Clinical and non-clinical staff, e.g. GP registrars, Trainee Advanced Practitioners, Paramedics.

Where appropriate, undertake the basic trainers course and work with management teams to either enable training status to be achieved or maintain training status.

Support locally developed urgent care pathways and community alternatives to admission, e.g. DVT service, Alternative to Transfer (ATT/PATS) Scheme with NWAS.

To support streaming of patients to or from co-located A&E services.

On call shifts (optional): Doctors on call are expected to respond to phone requests within 5 minutes of call and to be able to attend at any of our centres within 1 hr.

Personal Development

Maintain appropriate professional registration and ensure working within professional competencies.

To ensure all statutory and mandatory training relevant for post is completed.

Identify own training needs, in consultation and attend agreed relevant courses / study days to enhance personal development.

To be available for meetings and appraisals from time to time as required.

Actively seek out learning opportunities via networking with peers in other organisations.

Participate in the NHS Appraisal process and all activities required for revalidation.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • On the GMC GP register with a current Licence to Practice and without any current restrictions/undertakings or previous ones relevant to unscheduled care work.
  • Vocational Training certificate or certificate of equivalence.
  • Inclusion on NHS Englands Medical Performers list.
  • Be without any current restrictions/undertakings relevant to OOH work
  • Full membership of a medical indemnity organisation with required level of cover for GP OOH/urgent care sessions.

Desirable

  • GP Registrar working at gtd within last 12 months.
  • GP Principal/Salaried GP working in area(s) covered by gtd healthcare contracted areas or which share an appropriate boundary or undertaking in hours or freelance sessional GP working sessions within any gtd healthcare contracted areas or which share an appropriate boundary and with demonstrable evidence of in hours commitments in a regular practices.

Experience

Essential

  • An up to date understanding of modern primary care and its delivery in an OOH/urgent care setting.
  • Experience of working in primary care/OOH/Urgent Care.
  • Able to manage common medical, surgical and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Ability to make appropriate referral for further management.
  • Has an understanding of local services, pathways and OOH services.

Desirable

  • Understanding of National Quality Requirements in Out of Hours.
  • Experience of GP Training or multi- professional education.
