Job summary

The pharmacy department at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is offering excellent opportunities to current MPharm students, or school leavers with a confirmed offer of a place on an MPharm course on autumn 2023, to work a four week placement in our stores or dispensary teams at either Peterborough City or Hinchingbrooke Hospitals.

As our new Bank Undergraduate Pharmacy Student, you will join a well-established, multi-professional pharmacy team within a large NHS Trust which provides a broad range of pharmacy services.

You will support the dispensary and logistics teams by undertaking duties such as reception, administration, labelling, dispensing, distribution, and stock control of medicines.

Our friendly and supportive teams will help you developing skills which will complement your MPharm course and allow a smooth transition into a trainee pharmacist post at the end of your degree.

We'd like this to be the start of an ongoing working relationship with you!

The placement we offer will be a full four weeks in stores or a full four weeks in dispensary and options will be discussed at interview. We are happy to accommodate any allocation requests for a specific site, so please specify which site are you willing to work.

Main duties of the job

When working in the dispensary, you will interact with patients and visitors and undertake reception duties. The daily duties will include handling prescriptions including verifying the patient's identity and the validity of the prescription, clarifying the details about the prescription, advising on and validating claims for exemption (to reduce NHS fraud), using the till and handling cash and card payments.

You will ensure the input of accurate information onto the Prescription Tracking System (PTS) regarding receipt of prescriptions.

You will participate in the labelling and dispensing of medicines for patients in accordance with departmental procedures.

When working in stores, you will participate in the topping-up service to wards and departments, liaising with Divisional Pharmacists and Ward Managers as required regarding stock lists. This will include the regular expiry date checking of items stored at ward level and the removal and return of items that have expired.

In addition, you will attend the transportation of emergency items to pharmacy areas and wards when required, as well as undertaking the final checking of requisitions and ward orders.

If you like to know more about the role, please contact Alyson Winter, Principal Pharmacist Clinical Education, on [email protected].
