The opportunity
Located in Invercargill, the breadth of services provided by Southland Adult Mental Health Service includes the Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit (16-18 beds), the Invercargill Community Mental Health Team, the Southland Emergency Mental Health Team for the Southland population, a Child and Youth Mental Health Service and also a psychogeriatric service.
We are looking for Mental Health superstars to join our multi-disciplinary team in the Inpatient Unit or the Community Service to help us care for our local population. As a new team member, we offer a comprehensive orientation and induction to Southland Hospital and the Mental Health Service. You will join a welcoming and unified group of Mental Health experts based at the Southland Hospital site.

About you
- Experience working with adult patients with mental illness in an Inpatient Unit and/or community setting
- A motivated team player who delivers high-quality care to patients and their family/whānau
- Commitment to clinical and professional development
- Current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Adhere to the professional codes of ethics and standards of practice of the New Zealand Medical Council
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments
- Utilise evidence-based assessment tools and clinical expertise
- Provide individualised, client-centred therapy
- Monitor and evaluate clients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to support their mental well-being
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records and other required documentation
- Prescribe medications when appropriate
