An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified
reporting radiographer to join the Radiology team at Worcestershire Acute NHS
Trust, which comprises 7 sites across the county
The post has been developed to support the current
reporting team and leadership team at the Worcester Royal site. We are a team of 11 reporting
radiographers, led by a Cons Radiographer. The team manage over 75 % of the plain film
reporting which includes a daily hot reporting service to the 2
ED's and 4 MIU's
Our Cons Radiographer is an international lecturer in
plain film reporting and regular visiting lecturer at several universities.
Reporting radiographers in the trust are supported with on-going training and expanding
scope of practice, as part of this we expect reporters to work towards
qualification in reporting all body parts
The successful candidate will be required to support in both
a clinical and managerial capacity and support our OOH's duties as part of the departments key service provision. There
is an expectation that the appointed candidate will support other services
within radiology, according to knowledge and skills as required
Applicants should be enthusiastic and motivated with a
passion for plain film reporting and a desire to develop
Applicants must hold the BSc in Radiography or the DCR(R)
and be HCPC Registered. Applicants must
hold a Post Graduate qualification in at least 1 aspect of plain film reporting
from: Chest, Abdomen and MSK
This post is to support the
Radiographer reporting team within the Acute Trust. You will also work alongside
the Consultant Radiographer and Consultant Radiologists to enable an effective
and robust cross county service.
The post holder will be based at
the Worcester Royal site, but will also be required to travel around the trust
offering teaching and support when necessary and supporting the further development
of a fully integrated countywide service.
The appointment, if full-time, will have a minimum of 5 dedicated reporting sessions each week. We are working towards 7-day reporting and home reporting and there will be a flexible approach to meeting the reporting requirements over a 7-day period.

Location/ Department Countywide post. The post will be based at the Worcester Royal Hospital, but with regular attendance at other Radiology Departments within the Trust
Accountable to Radiology Service Manager
Reports to Consultant Radiographer (Plain film reporting)
This post is to support the Radiographer reporting team within the Acute Trust. You will also work alongside the Consultant Radiographer and Consultant Radiologists to enable an effective and robust cross county service

The post is a full time post (37.5 hours a week) and you will have a minimum of 5 dedicated reporting sessions each week. We are working towards 7 day reporting and home reporting and there will be a requirement to have a flexible approach to meeting the reporting requirements over a 7 day period
We will continue to further develop advanced practice within the Directorate and require the post holder to participate in in-house teaching and audit

Job Purpose:
Work as an advanced practitioner in plain film reporting undertaking all aspects of this and providing reports to multiple referrers including GP, ED and in patients and out patients.
Work alongside the Consultant Radiographer and other advanced practitioners ensuring a robust and effective county wide plain film reporting service
Provide effective guidance and act as a good role model providing support and education to qualified and unqualified staff
Have specialist knowledge, experience and skills to carry out appendicular, axial, chest and abdominal reporting
Provide day to day administration and technical supervision to ensure that plain film images meet the clinical needs of the patient
Undertake clinical x-ray examinations for a minimum of one session a week
Ensure that patients are professionally cared for during the examination and their time in the department
The post holder will be expected to assist with service development within the departments
The post holder will be actively involved in audit led by the department
Key task and responsibilities:
Clinical and Service Provision:
Work autonomously in day to day practice, performing and reporting on plain film x-rays. To be accountable for monitoring own standards of work and that of team, improving the quality of clinical service provision
The post holder would be expected to spend a minimum of 70% of their time in clinical reporting sessions.
Provide an agreed volume of plain film reporting, monitoring report lists and KPI`s for plain film
Take accountability for ensuring plain film internal standards and KPI`s are achieved in conjunction with reporting team
Make a contribution to teaching activity this will include teaching of students, radiology registrars, radiographers, nursing staff and others
Communicate results/findings to the referring clinician providing well rationalised evidence based advice and or recommendations
Determine the need for additional examinations based on clinical presentation and image appearances and where appropriate, refer patients for other supplementary investigations in line with the established care pathways
Provide assistance and guidance to other radiographers, helpers, students and assistant practitioners with technical or other problems that may arise
Advise radiographers on the justification of equivocal requests
Participate in and support PDR reviews and support Consultant Radiographer with HR policies and processes
Maintain knowledge of technical and clinical developments within the field of the service and to be involved with such persons as appropriate in the implementation of such developments.
Attend professional training/development courses as appropriate and provide appropriate feedback that would benefit or enhance the service
Checking patients details prior to examination and ensuring that such details are present and correct on the request form/computer
Requests must be justified as per departmental protocol and as per statutory regulations, Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) and the radiographer must use their professional judgement to refuse inappropriate requests
Ensure that patients are not pregnant prior to certain procedures
Perform, interpret and provide a written report on examinations as per departmental protocols, ensuring that any urgent reports are brought to the attention of the referring clinician and acted upon in the patients best interest
Ensure that patients are cared for in the department especially in their own area of work. To communicate to patients and others any delays likely to affect them, and within the standards set by the HPC to describe examination findings, if appropriate
In addition, to use their specialist knowledge and expertise to justify specialist requests within their modality. To discuss equivocal requests with clinicians/consultant radiologists
Ensuring that any images taken are properly identified with patients name, side examined, date of examination and coded if appropriate. Films should be stored within the electronic film folder on the PACS system. To enter information of the examination into the Radiology Computer System
Ensuring that, on completion of examination, the patient is informed how they will get their results and that they may leave and arrangements are made for transport if necessary
Ensuring that radiation safety measures are being observed within the limits of the procedure being carried out and that his/her own standard of Radiation Protection is in accordance with the "Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999" , IR(ME)R 2000 and any other relevant legislation
To attend professional training/development courses as appropriate and provide appropriate feedback that would benefit or enhance the service
To take appropriate action to ensure the safety of patients and others. To report any accidents/incidents to the radiographer in charge
Have a flexible attitude towards the hours of work and participate in work and duties as required relevant to the directorate
To maintain and ensure others maintain a safe, clean and tidy environment
To liaise with the Site Superintendent where appropriate
To maintain and promote partnership working with other healthcare professionals e.g. radiologists, advanced practitioners clinical nurse specialists, A&E and MIU staff
The post includes participation in the out of normal working hours reporting. The directorate is working towards 7 day working and extended working days

To participate in and promote Quality assurance within the department
To assist with radiation safety monitoring and development of new protocols
To develop and maintain protocols and quality standards with others, for working practices within the service
To participate in Medical/Clinical Audit of examinations

To participate in the training of others and to contribute to staff training needs with regard to induction, orientation and continuous education of staff
Statutory:
To ensure that all Trust, Unit and Directorate policies relating to Health and Safety, COSHH, Security and Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999, IR(ME)R 2000 and any other Local Radiation Safety policies are understood and observed in the department
Ensure that all apparatus and equipment is working satisfactorily and safely and that
Any malfunction is reported to the Site Superintendent
Any unreasonable delay in repair is brought to the attention of the Site Superintendent
Any fault occurring on equipment is entered into the relevant logbook
Assist the Site Superintendent in keeping appropriate documentation for equipment within the area
To attend mandatory training and ensure this is kept up to date

The purpose of this post should remain constant, but the duties and responsibilities may vary over time within the overall role and level of the post. The post holder may from time to time be asked to undertake other reasonable duties. Any such changes will be made in discussion with the post holder in the light of service needs
