Chief Registrar - 12 month fixed term post

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated senior trainee (ST4+ or equivalent) with an interest in leadership, management and quality improvement to join Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust as our Chief Registrar.

The Chief Registrar role provides senior trainees with 40% protected time to develop skills and confidence in leadership, management and quality improvement. Learning that chief registrars gain from the Royal College of Physicians' (RCP's) bespoke development programme will be put into practice in a supported environment that provides autonomy, flexibility and support to develop and support projects that address key local challenges and priorities. This may include service improvement, engagement and morale, education and training, workforce, and sustainability

Main duties of the job

The job description will tell you the main duties of the job - but we thought you would like to hear what a previous Chief Registrar thinks of the role - here is their story:-

'The Chief Registrar role at HDFT has been the most fantastic leadership development year for me and has exceed all my expectations. I can't recommend it highly enough!

We have one Chief Registrar at the Trust (from any specialty) and when you hear that the Chief Registrar acts as a link between junior doctors and senior leaders...they really do! In this role you work closely with the senior leadership and education teams. In an informal sense, you are in a unique position to bring the trainee perspective into corridor conversations. In a more formal sense, your attendance is welcome and appreciated at Board, Senior Management Team and Education meetings.

What does the Chief Registrar actually do at HDFT?...well that is up to! By default, you are a leadership figure for junior doctors at the Trust, but the role has sufficient autonomy for you to choose to delve deeper into issues of your choosing.

Finally, in terms of leadership development, your integration into Trust, Directorate and departmental activities gives post holders a fantastic exposure to medical leadership- it has been one of the best years of my career and I would recommend it to everyone. Good luck with your application! '
