We are pleased to offer the opportunity for a Lead Speech and Language Therapist (experience equivalent to Band 8a) to join our well-established multidisciplinary team at Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre.

Job responsibilities

Our 52-bed Level 1 and Level 2 inpatient rehabilitation service provides specialist treatment and care for patients with complex physical and cognitive impairments, challenging behaviours, and neuropsychiatric disorders resulting from a brain injury.

As the Lead Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a pivotal role within our senior management team. You will lead a team of knowledgeable and skilled Speech and Language Therapists, overseeing the delivery of high-quality care and rehabilitation services to our patients. Your responsibilities will include providing clinical leadership, managing resources effectively, and ensuring the continuous professional development of the therapy team.

What you'll be working:

What you'll be doing:

  • Keep people safe from harm and protect their human rights
  • Lead and manage the SLT Team, ensuring effective delivery of a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service
  • Maintain and develop a high-quality SLT service through recognised professional standards, evidence-based practice, and an effective clinical audit programme
  • Plan and prioritise a small complex clinical caseload
  • Provide advanced specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing for a caseload of patients with highly complex physical and cognitive impairments
  • Evaluate effectiveness of interventions using valid and reliable outcome measures and adherence to UKROC Database measures
  • Ensure effective and timely communication at all levels (with patients, families, the MDT and external agencies)
  • Develop and deliver in-service education and training programme for the wider MDT

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC registration

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in a similar neurorehabilitation environment
  • Proven leadership skills within a senior leadership team
  • Expert knowledge and skills in dysphagia management and a competent practitioner in FEES assessments for patients who have a brain injury
  • Evidence of leading and implementing service level change
  • Been involved in or led policy and procedure review, Quality Improvement initiatives, service evaluation and audit/research activities
