The Children's Therapy service in the North of Hampshire is based over two sites, Aldershot Centre for Health and Adelphi House in Basingstoke. You will have the opportunity to work with children aged 0-19, some of whom have complex communication needs. The service is delivered within clinics, homes, nurseries, mainstream and special schools. You will take on operational leadership responsibilities for the Speech and Language Therapy Service with specialism in a certain area, for example, early years.

This post would suit Children's Speech and Language Therapists who are looking to progress their career from a band 6 role into operational leadership or those who are currently working as a band 7 and would like a new challenge. The successful candidate will be supported to develop their leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

To provide a lead role within the locality in the delivery of Speech and Language therapy as part of an integrated team. You will have an overview of the entire service but specialise in taking the lead in a specific area.

To work with Locality Leads and Clinical Pathway Leads, providing clinical leadership, driving forward service development, maintaining standards and ensuring the provision of up to date evidence based care.

To provide a lead role in the management of caseloads, waiting times and activity, analysing accurate and timely activity data, information and statistics and keep the team and Team Manager updated with this and in delivering clinical supervision and appraisals.

To support the Locality Team Manager in the day to day management and development of staff based within the locality, deputising when required.

To provide line management, support and mentoring to less experienced colleagues

To work as an autonomous practitioner, in collaboration with health, education staff, children/young people and their parents, to deliver integrated specialised packages of care to children with complex speech, language and communication difficulties.

To provide a specialist Speech & Language Therapy Service to children and young people on the caseload some of whom may have complex needs.

About us

We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by July 2024.Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on 1st July 2024. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • A valid up to date RCSLT registration
  • A valid up to date HCPC Licence to Practice

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with a broad range of paediatric clinical impairments and disorders using a range of assessment methods as appropriate.
  • Experience of clinical supervision of students and others- auditing own and others' clinical practice, in order to act on the findings.
  • Able to demonstrate ability to make decisions in complex and unpredictable situations and deal with verbal aggression on occasions.
  • Proven Clinical Leadership and presentation skills.
  • Able to take personal responsibility, work autonomously and manage time effectively.
