Job summary

This is an opportunity for a 12 month Trust Registrar position at Croydon Sexual Health Centre.

The HIV department is based on the acute hospital site. Our HIV cohort at Croydon University Hospital is growing with over 900 patients, the majority of whom are on antiviral therapy. Croydon HIV clinic serves a diverse community with a large female cohort that we support through their pregnancies each year. HIV inpatients are admitted under the HIV team. Inpatient numbers are growing with approximately 100 admissions annually.

The Sexual Health centre is co-located with the HIV outpatient clinic. It sees 22,000 patients annually serving a population with a high incidence of STIs

The role is split between Sexual Health clinics and care of HIV patients. You will work alongside another Junior Doctors and coordinate departmental teaching. The post holder will be encouraged to conduct research and audit projects.

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The work schedule includes:

  • Regular ward rounds
  • Assessment of HIV & Sexual Health patients presenting to the Emergency Department and Medical Assessment Unit
  • One HIV clinic per week - providing routine monitoring and treatment of HIV Outpatients
  • Weekly MDT meetings, audit, and educational activities
  • Monthly viral load meetings
  • Perinatal HIV meetings with obstetrics, midwifery, and paediatric teams
  • Weekly radiology meeting
  • Five outpatient clinics per week in Croydon Sexual Health Centre
  • Supervision of Junior Clinical Fellow and support of nursing staff and wider team
  • Coordination of weekly departmental teaching programme

This post is intended to support Sexual Health and HIV care. This post offers an excellent opportunity to gain clinical experience in HIV medicine and sexual health within a supportive department.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree
  • MRCP part 1 or equivalent
  • One year post qualification experience working in NHS

Desirable

  • MRCP part 2 or equivalent
  • Diploma of Tropical medicine & Hygiene
  • Masters in Public Health
  • Proficiency in lumbar punctures

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Clinically competent in managing medically unwell patients

Desirable

  • ALERT course
  • Advanced life support

Experience

Essential

  • One year post registration experience working in the NHS

Desirable

  • Diploma in GU medicine
  • Diploma in HIV medicine
  • Six months experience in Sexual Health/infectious diseases/HIV

Academic/Research Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in audit/research
