Main duties of the job

The main duties and responsibilities of the post include (but are not limited to) the following: operating, managing ward rounds and unwell in patients, outpatient clinics and endoscopy.

There is an on-call commitment. The post holder will be expected to be available to give appropriate assistance in the ED Department, depending on the level of referrals/activity. The department has one registrar covering referrals and one registrar predominantly responsibly for the CEPOD theatres from 0800 - 2030.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Applicants are invited to the post of Senior Clinical Fellow in General and Colorectal Surgery. The successful applicant will become part of a team of 7 trainees and clinical fellows. They are supported by 5 FY1 doctors and 1 CT doctor. The team is led by 10 consultant surgeons. Trainees and fellows participate in an equal rota with identical training opportunities and out of hours work. Duties include: elective and emergency surgery; dedicated day surgery lists; on-call care of surgical patients; daily ward care of elective and emergency in patients and outpatient clinics. The Hospital is a University Teaching Hospital with formal affilitation with the Medical School. Fellows are expected to take part in undergraduate education and research projects. We are an international centre for surgery on neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) and a national centre for complex endometriosis, plastic surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction. The SCF will participate on the general emergency rota for in hours cover, which is 1:7 on call rota with prospective cover for leave. Study leave allowance will be confirmed by the Medical Education department.

  • The authority, decisionmaking skills etc. needed to lead a multidisciplinary team in a complex environment
