Locum/ Bank Sonographer opportunity

Are you a Sonographer who is passionate about NHS service delivery but looking for more flexibility within your current role?

Vernova Healthcare is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self motivated bank practitioner to join our small, but friendly ultrasound team. Our top priority is to ensure our NHS service remains patient focused, providing safe, effective and efficient care within a local community setting.

Ultrasound clinics are delivered from the following sites within Eastern Cheshire using newly replaced GE ultrasound equipment.

Macclesfield Health Hub & East Cheshire Trust

Knutsford & District Community Hospital

Congleton Memorial Hospital

Handforth Clinic

The successful applicant will be required to work independently across these sites but also as part of a wider team, healthcare assistants form part of our valued team and support all sessions.

We promote effective communication and engagement, meeting regularly for service/clinical updates including peer review audit/feedback.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of a small but experienced team, you will report directly to the Lead Sonographer. Your remit will be to be independently responsible for carrying out and reporting on non-obstetric ultrasound examinations to a high standard, in line with local and national guidelines. Holding a CASE accredited ultrasound qualification (PgCert, PgDip) you must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom with HCPC/NMC/ equivalent registration. The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills and experience in general, gynaecological and superficial/small parts scanning. MSK and/or head and neck experience would also be an advantage.

Job responsibilities

To undertake a range of ultrasound examinations in line with local, regional, and national guidelines

To assess the suitability of examination referrals and prioritise according to clinical urgency.

To provide high standards of patient care in a safe clean working environment.

To provide general abdominal, pelvic, some small parts and MSK (if appropriately trained) diagnostic ultrasound examinations at various sites within Eastern Cheshire.

To work independently and autonomously, providing diagnostic ultrasound examinations to a high clinical standard, including interpretation and production of a clinical report for each ultrasound scan undertaken.

To use the CRIS system for hot reporting all examinations as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures.

To work as part of a small team and actively develop, participate and contribute to matters concerning clinical governance, relevant programs of clinical audit and assessment.

To deliver appropriate, sensitive, and individualised patient care at all times, with a focus on patient experience.

To carry out all techniques as an unsupervised independent practitionerTo ensure that professional and technical knowledge/expertise is kept up to date and to maintain a portfolio to show evidence of continuous professional development. To act at all times in a manner that upholds the CIC core values working as part of the team to ensure that patients, relatives and carers receive excellent care with compassion.To ensure own professional regulatory and accreditation requirements are maintained

To contribute and engage in any governance issues give full co-operation in any investigations of a complaint or untoward incident and comply with company procedure to that effect

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working as a Sonographer within the NHS.
  • Extensive independent clinical practice in ultrasound.
  • Evidence of continual professional development (CPD).
  • Ability to give effective feedback and to liaise with a wide range of individuals.
  • Ability to demonstrate and understand the principles of Sonography

Desirable

  • Experience of Musculoskeletal Scanning and/or Head and Neck
  • Evidence of multi-modality knowledge.
  • An understanding of recent developments within the NHS.
  • Service Provision in a community setting

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Imaging or DCR PG Dip in Medical Ultrasound
  • Registration with a professional healthcare body (HCPC/NMC).

Desirable

  • Additional modular qualification, modules, or training.
