Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an RMN to join our Eating Disorders Day Programme Service for children and young people based in the London's Kensington & Chelsea.

The Day Programme is a small service open Monday - Friday that provides an enhanced level of care in the community following specialist inpatient treatment and step-up care from the community for young people with eating disorders and complex physical and psychiatric co-morbidity.

The post holder will be part of a wider multidisciplinary team to establish this exciting new service. Holding responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of nursing input to children and young people, support to their families/cares and advice and consultation on their care to colleagues and the professional network.

You will deliver outstanding care and help to promote independence and dignity and positively enhance the lives of individuals in our care. You will provide mental health and basic physical health nursing interventions and support group therapy sessions. You will learn how to help practically, supervising mealtimes with families, offering psychoeducation around food, eating disorders and managing emotions.

We are looking for a RMN who is either interested in or has experience of working with eating disorders and who is motivated and has the right attitude to help nurture this new team to deliver the best quality care experience for children and their families.

Main duties of the job

  • To liaise with the Multidisciplinary Team to facilitate the smooth transition for patients to the service
  • To take a lead role in the nursing assessment of all referrals
  • To collaborate closely on clinical and managerial matters with service leads for the day Programme
  • To provide keywork to the young person and family using the approach of Family Based Treatment.
  • To act as care co-ordinator for day patients
  • To ensure that all day patients have a nursing care plan that is regularly reviewed in collaboration with the patient
  • To act as group facilitator/co-facilitator as required, including supervision of meals in dining room, as well as inpatient and day patient groups
  • To take a lead nursing role in day patient and team review meetings
  • To ensure that planning of care occurs within the framework of CPA, that relevant local and national guidelines are adhered to
  • To liaise and work with the families and/or carers of patients. To provide individualised family work in conjunction with the family therapist
  • To develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with service users and their families/carers
  • To provide supervision, and conduct appraisals
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management of individual patients and their families
  • To liaise and work with the families and/or carers of patients. To provide individualised family work in conjunction with the family therapist

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • oRMN
  • oCurrent NMC registration
  • oMentorship Training

Desirable

  • oEvidence of regular updating in nursing clinical practice since qualification
  • oMotivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) Training
  • oDegree or Post Graduate qualification relevant to the post

Previous Experience

Essential

  • o Significant post registration experience
  • oEvidence of skills & experience transferable to Eating Disorders
  • oExperience of working in mental health in-patient or community including mental health assessment and risk assessment
  • oExperience of completing a nursing assessment and formulating a safe care plan
  • oExperience of managing a case load of patients and care co ordination within a ward or community setting
  • oExperience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • oExperience of supervising staff or working with student nurses
  • oExperience of managing incidents and complaints

Desirable

  • oExperience of working in a CAMHS or ED ward or community setting
  • oExperience of completing a specialist assessment for patients with eating disorders
  • oDeveloping a specialist area on behalf of the Service/ or local team
  • oExperience of working in a day programme
  • oUse of therapeutic interventions within mental health settings i.e. 1:1, counselling, family therapy and group work
