We are looking for an Operating Department Practitioner or Nurse to join our East Theatres team. We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic practitioner of any experience with an interest in becoming part of a dedicated orthopaedic team, with a view to working flexibly across all aspects of the peri-operative phase.
In this post you will be given the opportunity and expected to learn, develop and practice several chosen roles to care for pre, peri and post-operative orthopaedic patients.
East Theatres specialises in joint surgery, both primary and revision; and is also the regional specialist centre for major spinal surgery. Elective spine and orthopaedic surgery is performed weekdays across 4 operating theatres. In addition, a dedicated trauma theatre provides 24 hour/ 7 days a week service.
In 2024 elective orthopaedic surgical services will transfer to our brand new state-of-the-art specialist centre for elective orthopaedics at Colchester Hospital.
This role will be subject to a formal staff consultation process during 2023. Opportunities will exist for you within the organisation if you choose not to move to the new centre.
Main duties of the job
In this role, on-call requirements are necessary to cover trauma and spinal out of hours care. The post is integral to the effectiveness of a busy department and provides an excellent opportunity to learn and enhance your skills to the fullest. You will benefit from a flexible working environment in which new skills can be obtained, whilst maintaining existing expertise.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be given the opportunity to learn and utilise new skills. You will need excellent communication and organisation skills, be flexible and have a passion for learning.
The post is part of the theatre and anaesthetics division, opportunities for internal rotation to other surgical specialities can arise.
