Job summary

We are looking to recruit a confident, enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist with excellent communication skills and a keen interest in the safe, rational and cost-effective prescribing of antimicrobials.

This is an excellent opportunity to utilise and further develop skills in a high profile role supporting the organisation in achieving positive patient outcomes related to infections and to meet local, regional and national antimicrobial prescribing targets.

Main duties of the job

This role requires a pharmacist who can take responsibility and accountability for the development and monitoring of antimicrobial prescribing practice within the trust. This will include development of guidelines, auditing clinical practice, monitoring antimicrobial usage and expenditure, training staff and identifying improvements to support antimicrobial stewardship.

With a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy, or equivalent transferrable experience, you will have highly developed pharmacy skills and a proven track record of operation at a senior level, particularly in relation to influencing prescribing and facilitating change.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Pharmacy knowledge associated with a Pharmacy degree course.
  • Experience gained through pre-registration training.
  • Experience gained through vocational practice.
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching pharmaceutical knowledge to other pharmacy staff.
  • Experience of staff supervision/management.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc, B.Pharm or MPharm in Pharmacy.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in clinical pharmacy gained through postgraduate study or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Specialist post-graduate qualification or evidence of specialist post-graduate studies, particularly in the field of antimicrobial drug therapy.
  • Evidence of commitment to CPD.
  • Qualified independent prescriber

Further Training

Essential

  • Experience of drug usage evaluation, financial reporting and critical appraisal.
  • Audit experience.
  • Project work.

Desirable

  • Practice research.

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience of hospital pharmacy with time spent in a specialist pharmacist role.
  • Pharmacy knowledge (clinical and operational) from aspects of career to date.
  • Well-developed time management and organisational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communicator and presenter, with experience of negotiation and persuasion.
  • Experience of developing and using electronic databases.
  • Experience of working with a variety of different professional groups e.g. multi-disciplinary team working

  • Evidence-based practice.
  • Experience of providing drug usage reports and feedback of information to clinicians within a specialty.
  • Experience of delivering education.
