Job summary

The Directorate of Respiratory Medicine, at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a senior fellow in Long Term Ventilation to support the growth of services.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is at the level of respiratory registrar / post CCT and wishes to gain subspeciality experience within Long-term ventilation and Sleep Medicine to support a future application for a consultant role within considerable knowledge of a respiratory medicine sub-specialty (long-term ventilation) to support a future application for a specialty training number in Respiratory Medicine. They will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the management of both domiciliary non-invasive and invasive tracheostomy ventilation. The new post holder will assist in providing in-patient clinical care on the long-term ventilation unit and will be encouraged to participate in an active audit and research portfolio. Full Consultant cover is provided as well as support from an enthusiastic highly skilled multidisciplinary team. Educational opportunities and supervision will be comparable with those of a training post. It is intended that the holder of the post will work in the Long-Term Ventilation Service as a Clinical Fellow for up to 12 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Fully registered Medical Practitioner (GMC)
  • MBChB /MBBS

Desirable

  • MRCP (PACES part 1) or equivalent postgraduate qualification.

Training

Essential

  • Clinical training, experience and competencies at CT2 level or above with view to obtaining a Specialist Training number (ST3) in Respiratory Medicine

Desirable

  • Previous Respiratory Medicine experience
  • ALS provider. If candidate does not hold ALS, they are encouraged to obtain this as soon as possible after starting in the post
  • Good knowledge of General Medicine

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of medical training at CMT level or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Phlebotomy and peripheral iv cannula insertion.

Desirable

  • At least six months experience in NHS
  • Experience in different medical specialties. i.e. Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, ICU etc.
  • Lumbar puncture experience

Audit & Research

Essential

  • Has carried out audits and understands the principles of research and evidence-based practice.

Desirable

  • Experience of doing clinical audits.
  • Publication in a peer reviewed journal involving infectious diseases.

Teaching

Essential

  • Proactiveinteaching medical students and trainees.

Desirable

  • Experience of mentoring medical or other students, or junior doctors

Motivation & Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Understand the value of MDT work and is able to work in and lead a team.
  • Good communication skills
  • Multidisciplinary team experience
  • Commitment to continuing medical education

Desirable

  • Able to show good leadership skills.
