Job summary

Co-ordinate the delivery of clinical services across the Yorkshire & Merseyside Area and to manage the clinical teams on a daily basis in order to deliver the safe and effective care of patients.

Promote, support and deliver safe and efficient abortion and associated services in line with the Abortion Act 1967, Department of Health RSOPs and medical guidelines across our treatment centres.

Postholder will:

be fully conversant with Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations and understand the importance of compliance.

assist the Regional Manager to support and manage the BOBs centres to achieve group financial objectives and comply with corporate strategy, using the corporate framework to support the principle of the right of people to limit the size of their family.

be responsible for assisting in the development of clinical practices in order to meet the requirements of national and local strategies as identified by the Clinical Commissioning Groups (ICBs).

be experienced in providing appropriate family planning and sexual health care and provide leadership for the development of Nurse Led services in Yorkshire and Merseyside.

develop systems, processes and procedures in order to meet key performance indicators.

work closely with the Regional Manager to ensure there is a seamless patient focused service ensuring that the experience provided to the patient simultaneously meets CQC regulations, NUPAS own excellent high standards and markets the service -encouraging growth.

Main duties of the job

Work with Head of Nursing to Lead and develop Nurse Led Clinics which will include the development of a workforce plan.

Support Head of Nursing to develop a training plan through the appraisal process and to develop a training programme to ensure all staff reach their full potential. To include the development of a competency assessment framework for new roles, skills and ensure all staff are able to provide a safe clinical service.

Provide hands-on clinical care as appropriate and in liaison with the RM.

Ensure that clinical rotas are in place and that adequately skilled staff are rostered.

Identify gaps in skills and workforce and liaise with the RM and Head of Nursing to alleviate this.

Lead the development and implementation of guidelines, protocols, clinical policies, procedures including the roll-out of policies to clinical teams within the Yorkshire & Merseyside region.

Provide quality leadership to the clinical team and ensure they are responsible for their own learning and actions which must always be in the best interests of the patient.

Ensure that resources are used effectively, efficiently, and appropriately.

Work with the RM to ensure clinics are fully compliant with the requirements of the CQC and RSOPs for termination services.

Work with the RM to ensure the clinics are fully compliant with Infection Control & H&S regulations

Work with the RM to ensure that the service is provided within the financial parameters agreed

About us

National Unplanned Pregnancy Advisory Service (NUPAS) has been providing surgical and medical abortions to thousands of women each year for over 50 years. We are commissioned by the NHS to provide free pregnancy advice, counselling and abortion services.

Leadership

Client Care

1. Co-ordinate the services across the region to ensure the delivery of a high standard of client care and safety

2. Implement programmes of care for clients in accordance with appropriate care pathways and evaluate their effectiveness

3. Deliver safe and effective family planning and sexual health care

4. Recognise and respect a clients right to dignity and respect at all times.

5. Ensure the full and accurate completion of all client documentation.

6. Ensure that treatment areas, including theatres, are prepared for treatments and ensure equipment is regularly checked to ensure it is clean, safe and in good working order.

7. Ensure that the right number of staff, with the right skills are in the right place to provide client care

8. Work with the Regional Manager to regularly review the results of the client questionnaires in order to learn from them and develop the service accordingly

9. Ensure that the clinics are regularly monitored for effectiveness and to ensure the environment complies with statutory regulations.

Clinical Practice

1. Work with the clinical teams to support them in ensuring clients are provided with relevant information and support to enable them to make an informed choice and with nursing interventions based on evidence-based practice

2. Work with clinical teams to ensure the provision of specialist holistic care supplying contraception and medicines in line with company policies

3. Support and develop the clinical teams to ensure the correct protocols are used for clients of different ages and with differing needs - considering safeguarding and mental capacity.

4. Support the clinical teams to provide any necessary screening for sexually transmitted infections

5. Ensure that all clinical team member practice is compliant with the NMC Code of Conduct for qualified nursing staff.

Professional Development

1. Ensure compliance with statutory and mandatory training requirements and ensure that all clinical staff across the region comply with the requirements

2. Provide induction, training and support to new staff and ensure that their development needs are appropriately met

3. Undertake appraisals with all clinical staff to identify development needs

4. In conjunction with the Regional Manager ensure learning needs have been identified through the appraisal process and there is an effective training plan put in place to support CPD

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current Nurse and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration as a Registered Nurse (Sub part 1 of the NMC register)/Registered Midwife
  • Up to date knowledge and experience of working in a sexual health/TOP/gynae service.

Desirable

  • Theatre certificate or qualified by experience
  • Management/Leadership Qualification.
  • Professional nurse education teaching qualifications.
  • Faculty of Reproductive Sexual Healthcare (FSRH Letter of Competence in intrauterine techniques i.e IUS/IDU fitter)
  • Recognised qualification in Independent/Supplementary Prescribing

Experience

  • Experience managing and developing operational clinical services.
