Applications are invited for a Consultant Burn Surgeon. The post has arisen due to the need to expand services to cope with the increasing demand.The Post holder will join a team of surgeons who provide the service in both the paediatric and adult burn centres of the Midlands. This single team currently works across two sites and applications are welcome from surgeons with either paediatric surgery, plastic surgery or trauma as their primary discipline.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based at Birmingham Children's Hospital. It is full time 10PA job; however, less than full time is acceptable. The successful applicants would also be expected to participate in a 1:6 on-call rota covering both the pediatric burns center Birmingham Children Hospital and the adult burns center at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
The appointee will join the burn surgery team and will have the opportunity to develop an interest in an area of general plastic surgery and /or laser therapy, along with their commitment to the burns service. It would be expected that the major responsibilities of the posts are to the burns service (paediatric and adult if appropriate). These posts would be suitable for candidates who have completed higher surgical training who have a more specialist interest in the management of burns.
An honorary contract will be sought for the successful candidates, to allow regular sessions to be worked in the Adult Burn Centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The Timetable will include acute burn care, burns reconstruction, scar treatments, laser sessions based on experience of candidate, MDT meetings, on call and further plastic surgery if appropriate. The exact details of the timetable will be linked to skills and interests of successful candidates.

- Medical Laser Certificate is highly desirable
Special Knowledge/Abilities/ and/or experience
Essential
- Specialist burns fellowship (6 months minimum) covering both adult and paediatric burns at post CCT/CESR level or at senior level post FRCS Plastic
- Wide experience in total burn care, at a senior level in the NHS including surgical and non-surgical management of complex and major burns, both acute care and long term reconstruction
- Experience in general plastic surgery
- Experience in Laser therapy
