We are
looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to work in our
inpatient rehab unit at Woking Community Hospital.
This post
would suit a Occupational Therapist either currently at, or working towards,
Band 6 level, with an interest in developing specialist skills relating to
rehabilitation and complex discharge-planning.
Our
Inpatient services work on the Complex Elderly Rehabilitation Ward in Woking
Community Hospital, offering patient-centred care, working with individuals,
and their families/carers, to help optimise mobility, function and well-being
as part of preparation for a safe discharge.
Although
expected to work autonomously you will not be alone. Our service is based
around a multi-disciplinary team model, working with Physiotherapists, Nurses,
Rehabilitation Assistants, Adult Social Care and doctors, also liaising with
other community services.
This is a
full-time post which will include some weekend working.

Main duties of the job
This role involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on an inpatient rehabilitation ward at Woking Community Hospital. Our ward team assesses and treats patients with a wide variety of conditions, often complex. We are therefore looking for a therapist with knowledge and experience of a range of client groups including any of the following: inpatient & community rehabilitation, care of the elderly, neurology, medical, oncology and orthopaedics. The duties of the role include:
- Undertaking comprehensive assessments of patients activities of daily living (ADL), mobility, posture, seating / wheelchair needs, skin viability, and environment, in conjunction with agreed patient outcomes, assessing patients jointly with other members of MDT.
- Using sound clinical reasoning skills to develop individualised treatment, management and discharge plans, liaising with community services for onward referrals.
- Working in partnership with patients and carers, negotiating goals and prioritising interventions which respect patients choice and values.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. To work as a member of the multi -disciplinary Inpatient Therapy team
2. To undertake advanced assessments, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients within the speciality who are requiring rehabilitation. These patients often have complex and / or chronic presentations.
3. To work as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant specialist clinical caseload, working without direct supervision. Access to a senior OT is available if required and clinical work is not routinely evaluated.
4. To take a role in supervision and teaching of students within clinical speciality.
5. To demonstrate leadership skills and contribute to service development, monitoring of standards of practice and developing multidisciplinary management of patients.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Diploma/ degree Leading to inclusion on Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Occupational Therapy register. Relevant post graduate training and evidence of continuing professional development. CPD portfolio
Experience
Essential
- 2-3 years of post-registration experience working in NHS hospitals/ services. Please refer to the full Job Description and Person Specification for further details about this role.
Desirable criteria

- Experience in a community role. Appraisal. Supervision of students or others. Driving licence.
