General Dentist

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Dentist to join our friendly team in Staffordshire.

Our service is reaching out to people, many of whom have previously found it difficult to access dental care. We are continuing to meet the challenge of extending NHS dental access and providing continuing dental care for vulnerable individuals. This includes the provision of general anaesthetic and sedation services alongside dental public health roles.

Working within our team, you will be part of a caring and committed group providing high quality dental care to local people with a range of dental needs. A positive approach is essential as well as the ability to strike a rapport with people who may find dental services daunting. Our service offers an excellent clinical working environment operating from modern surgeries with dedicated digital clinical information systems.

You will work with, and provide support to, the team providing urgent care and routine treatment to patients who do not have access to routine NHS dentistry. There will be a variety of opportunities to develop interests in special care and paediatric dentistry including the provision of general anaesthesia and sedation together with the delivery of epidemiology.

All post holders must have current registration with the General Dental Council and be eligible to join the Dental Performers list.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate high professional standards and have responsibility for maintaining clinical standards and working arrangements at the clinic/s from which he/she provides dental services.

The post holder will provide dental care to all identified client groups. This will include the provision of high quality clinical care to adults and children requiring special care dentistry as a result of disability, complex medical needs, tolerance issues and anxiety management which would prevent them receiving care in the GDS. Care will include dental treatment under general anaesthesia or conscious sedation where clinically appropriate. The post holder will also provide high quality NHS dental care to members of the local population who are unable to access care in the GDS for the resolution of an urgent dental problem. Access to the service is either by self-referral or by referral from other health professionals.

The post holder will be committed to developing clinical leadership skills and will work alongside senior colleagues to further develop the Staffordshire Community Dental Service.

There will be a requirement to be involved with the out of hours rota which includes evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays as required.
