Job summary
We are inviting applications to fill our Trust doctor ST6+ vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Department of Thoracic Surgery. This post will commence in November and end in 6 months, extendable to 12months Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a licence to practise by the intended start date.
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time post. Candidates will be expected to engage in all aspects of the post; this includes the care of patients both pre- and post-operatively, attending relevant MDTs, attending theatre and clinic sessions, being involved in the on-call rota and teaching of medical students. We offer a wide range of thoracic surgery, such as minimally invasive, including robotic, to maximally open surgery. We also have a robust endoscopic service, such as navigational bronchoscopy and interventional airways procedures. Besides, we have an active academic portfolio, and there are ample opportunities for candidates to get involved in research, audits and QI.

Why you should join our Team.The Leeds Cancer Centre, which is part of the regional Yorkshire Cancer Network, is based at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds and serves a population of 2.7 million. The Thoracic department at St James’ University Hospital is one of the largest in the UK with a catchment population of 2.5 million and currently services 6 MDT’s across the region. The department has expanded greatly over the years and continues to do so. We currently have 8 consultants, 7 Registrars, and 5 ANPs. Theatres and clinics run daily. There is a 32 bedded thoracic ward including a dedicated 4 bedded HDU.
What you will bring to the roleThe post holder will be required to undertake 10 sessions to support the needs of the service and provide flexibility to cover during times of leave. During the week, the trust doctor will lead ward rounds, attend theatre lists and clinics at least weekly. There will also be opportunities to undertake audit and research in a dedicated session, contributing to the portfolio of the department
