Job summary

This is a full-time (10 PA), 12-month fixed-term post for a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. The post forms part of the ongoing expansion and transformation of Respiratory Medicine at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and offers significant opportunities for clinical leadership, innovation and service development.

The successful applicant will work alongside Consultant Respiratory colleagues to provide inpatient and outpatient respiratory care, including general respiratory and tuberculosis clinics, Respiratory Hot Clinic activity, bronchoscopy, pleural procedures and participation in the General Internal Medicine on-call service. The postholder will also contribute to departmental governance activities, including Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) processes, quality improvement initiatives, teaching and multidisciplinary working.

Main duties of the job

A key service-development component of the post will be participation in a consultant-led Respiratory Referral Triage and Direct Access pathway, complementing the established Advice & Guidance service. The pathway will support early senior clinical review of accepted respiratory referrals, appropriate allocation to general or specialist respiratory pathways, and access to relevant investigations prior to the first outpatient assessment where appropriate.

Applicants should have broad-based training in Respiratory Medicine, excellent clinical and communication skills, and a demonstrable commitment to service improvement, education, governance and patient-centred care.

Participation in annual job planning, appraisal and GMC revalidation processes is a requirement of the post.
