Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist to join the Neurodisability Movement Disorders Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This post has become available due to a fixed-term career break and offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills within a nationally recognised tertiary service.

The Neurodisability Service at GOSH provides highly specialised multidisciplinary assessment and management for children and young people with complex neurodisability and movement disorders. The service delivers a range of specialist outpatient clinics, including spasticity management and the assessment and management of rare and complex conditions. We run a busy botulinum toxin programme and a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) service supported by inpatientneurorehabilitation. Referrals are received from across the UK.

We are looking for a Paediatric Physiotherapist with experience in neurodisability assessment and rehabilitation. You will join an established multidisciplinary team and work alongside experienced colleagues within a service led by two Consultant Physiotherapy Leads and Clinical Specialist Band 8a staff.

The post is offered at 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours per week) and is currently planned as three 7.5-hour working days per week. The preferred working pattern is Tuesday to Thursday; however, flexible arrangements will be considered. Core availability between 09:00 and 14:00 is essential.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice across the Neurodisability Movement Disorders Service. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to clinical decision-making, advisory reports and collaborative care planning for children with complex needs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role involves close liaison with local therapy teams, families, carers and educational settings.

You should be able to demonstrate experience in:

- Paediatric neurodisability assessment and management

- Spasticity management and rehabilitation

- Community-based neurodisability services

- Working collaboratively with families, carers and schools

- Paediatric orthopaedics and neurodevelopment

Responsibility for the outpatient assessment and preparation of children before and following botulinum toxin treatment. You will work flexibly alongside the Neurodisability Physiotherapy Team and collaborate closely with colleagues across physiotherapy, medicine and orthopaedics. You will have excellent paediatric handling and clinical assessment skills and be confident working both independently and as part of a specialist MDT.

The service has a strong commitment to education and professional development. You will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate physiotherapy students and support the coordination and supervision of student placements. The team also provides training to medical colleagues.
