Job summary

At the time of advertising, this role does not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK. This role is offered on a part time basis of 30 hours per week, this means that candidates interested in working part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis.

Under the delegation and supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner, the Health Care Assistant will carry out all of the delegated duties listed in the main responsibilities section below independently within the health care team. The post holder will work within the out-patient department as part of a team supporting patients, clinicians and colleagues during outpatient consultations. They will provide the fundamentals of care to patients in the hospital to ensure high standards are maintained in a safe environment including patient safety and to make sure that the care experience is positive by treating all patients, family, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values and policies.

Main duties of the job

No duties are to be undertaken by the post holder unless they have received the correct training. All duties must be in accordance with the Band 2 skills matrix.

Job responsibilities

1. Will have the knowledge and skills to provide the fundamental care needs for individual patients under the direction and supervision of the registered practitioner, the following can be undertaken in the band 2 training period, following the GWH standards of care. These duties will be repetitive, routine and familiar, following the patient care plan and consent gained from the patient which must include;

Caring and communication with kindness and compassion

Personal Care including catheter care (if required)

Nutrition and Hydration support

Pressure Area Care

Collect specimens (routine bodily fluids only)

Moving and handling

Documentation including food & fluid charts and outcome sheets. Environmental maintenance

Performing care in line with risk assessments and care plans

Ensure all clinical rooms are stocked up with appropriate clinical forms and patient information sheets

Assist with the preparation of medical notes to facilitate the running of clinics.

Escort to other departments (except theatre)

Instigate Emergency procedure

Completion of accident / incident forms

Promote person centred values and provide support for patients wellbeing and fulfilment
