We are seeking a caring and motivated Paediatric Emergency Care Technician to join our Emergency Department team. This is a great opportunity to be part of a progressive service supporting high-quality emergency care for children and young people.

In this role, you will work with registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care. Duties include supporting clinical tasks, assisting with patient assessment and treatment, and helping maintain a child-friendly, organised environment. Your contribution will ensure children and families receive timely, patient-centred support during challenging moments.

We are looking for a committed team player with experience in acute or paediatric care, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for working with children and families. You should be confident supporting clinical activities, able to work in a fast-paced setting, and keen to learn and develop within paediatric emergency care.

Working closely with paediatric nurses, emergency clinicians, and the wider team, you will play a key role in helping us deliver outstanding care.If you are enthusiastic about providing high-quality care and want to make a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the paediatric Emergency Department by assisting with patient assessment, treatment, and clinical procedures such as cannulation, phlebotomy, ECGs, bladder scans, and safe removal of cannulas following appropriate training.

  • Use effective distraction and comfort techniques during procedures to support children and young people.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked clinical environment, including replenishing emergency equipment after resuscitation or trauma alerts.

  • Assist nursing and medical staff with administrative tasks, accurate data entry, and use of clinical IT systems, escalating any concerns about patient deterioration.

  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns, ensuring appropriate referrals are completed.

  • Support timely patient flow by organising transfers, arranging discharge paperwork, contacting patient transport, and photocopying/handling notes when needed.

  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.

  • Help maintain stock levels, equipment, and supplies, reporting shortages promptly.

  • Assist with bereavement care under the direction of a registered nurse.

  • Participate in staff induction, departmental handovers, meetings, and incident reporting.

  • Respond professionally to challenging behaviour or aggression, following Trust policy.

  • Recognise limits of own role, work within competencies, and maintain up-to-date training.
