Job summary

Ward A4 is a 35-bedded surgical ward specialising in colorectal and general surgery. It offers a dynamic, fast-paced environment where delivering high-quality care is both challenging and rewarding, with strong opportunities for learning, skills development, and professional growth within a supportive team.

The ward includes an Intermediate Surgical Care Unit (ISCU), providing enhanced monitoring with flexible nurse-to-patient ratios based on clinical need. ISCU acts as a vital bridge between standard ward care and Level 2/3 critical care, ensuring safe, responsive, and specialised support throughout patient recovery.

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse committed to delivering excellent patient care and maintaining high clinical standards. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including surgical consultants, nurse practitioners, critical care outreach, and therapy teams, in an environment that promotes learning and innovation.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality patient care: Provide safe, compassionate, and effective care, ensuring individual patient needs are consistently met.
  • Work collaboratively within the MDT: Liaise with surgeons, nurse practitioners, critical care outreach, and wider teams to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Support ISCU care: Deliver enhanced monitoring and care for patients requiring a higher level of support.
  • Maintain patient safety and wellbeing: Assess patients, monitor clinical conditions, administer medications, and respond promptly to deterioration.
  • Contribute to education and discharge planning: Support patients and families with post-operative care and recovery guidance.
  • Ensure accurate documentation: Maintain timely and compliant patient records in line with Trust standards.
  • Engage in development and teamwork: Participate in training, reflective practice, and contribute to a positive team culture.
