Working as part of our small, collaborative People team, you will provide practical HR advice and support to managers and colleagues, contribute to employee relations activity and help strengthen learning, development and manager capability across Shropdoc.

Based at our head office in Shrewsbury, you will join our small, collaborative People team. This varied, hands-on role will suit someone who enjoys working closely with managers, supporting colleagues and translating good People practice into positive outcomes.

Experience or knowledge of payroll and health and safety would be an advantage and would add valuable breadth across the wider People function. The relevant team members will remain the subject-matter experts, but experience in these areas would complement your core HR expertise and strengthen your application.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced HR professional who can bring strong core HR knowledge, sound judgement and a practical, people-focused approach. You will be confident providing advice to managers, handling employee relations matters and supporting colleagues through a range of people-related issues.

You will also have an interest in learning and development, with the ability to help managers build their confidence and capability through effective training, coaching and support.

You will be someone who:

  • Has solid experience across the core HR function, including employee relations and providing advice to managers.

Shropdoc is a not-for-profit company established in 1996. We provide oncology and haematology telephone triage services for patients receiving treatment from the Royal Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals and across Lancashire. We also provide urgent primary care services for patients across Powys.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Head of People, Estates & Health & Safety in the operational delivery and continuous improvement of the People function, ensuring high-quality, responsive services that align with organisational priorities.
  • Provide professional guidance on all people related matters and promote the consistent application of HR policies, procedures and employment best practice across the organisation.
  • Coordinate workforce initiatives that enhance organisational development, employee engagement, wellbeing, learning and workforce capability.
  • Support the development and implementation of the organisation's learning and development priorities in accordance with the Training Policy and the Staff Talent Development and Staff Retention Strategy.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

HR, People and Employee Relations

To contribute to the overall success of the HR Department in delivering a proactive and customer-focused HR service by providing effective support, guidance and advice to managers and staff members on a wide variety of HR matters, including but not limited to employee relations, policy and process, recruitment, and the delivery of key projects, to include but limited to:

  • Manage a varied ER caseload including disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, performance, and probation matters, and be first point of contact for HR queries relating to ER matters.
  • Act as HR lead, alongside managers, in the management of change issues, leading in formal consultation exercises. Escalate complex or high-risk cases to the Head of People, Estates & Health & Safety.
  • Manage sickness absence in collaboration with managers, managing redeployment where appropriate, assisting staff back to work, and working with managers to reduce sickness absence across the organisation. Implementation of workforce initiatives that improve recruitment, retention and workforce sustainability.
  • Oversee resource planning, providing advice to managers on recruitment campaigns, development of job descriptions/person specifications, job evaluations, and appropriate selection processes.

Training and Development

  • Identification and analysis of organisational learning and development needs, informed by workforce planning, appraisal outcomes, manager feedback, organisational priorities and business objectives.
  • Design, develop and deliver engaging HR-related training, workshops and guidance sessions for managers and staff, including People policies, employee relations processes, absence management, performance management, effective conversations, coaching and other priority areas identified through organisational need.
