Job summary

Are you a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker who enjoys clinical variety, collaborative working and the opportunity to work across traditional service boundaries?

North Neighbourhood Mental Health Team is recruiting a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner to work across the North Birmingham area.

This is a permanent, Trust-funded non-ARRS post. Unlike an ARRS practitioner role aligned to a particular Primary Care Network or GP practice, this post sits within the core North NMHT and provides flexibility to respond to clinical and service needs across the wider North Birmingham locality.

Based at Northcroft in Erdington, you will work with adults from communities with varied cultural, social and economic backgrounds. Your work may include mental health assessment, formulation, collaborative care planning, brief interventions, follow-up and liaison with GP surgeries, primary care practitioners, CMHTs and community organisations.

The role offers breadth, autonomy and the opportunity to help strengthen the connections between primary care, neighbourhood services and secondary mental health care.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 practitioner, you will undertake autonomous clinical work while remaining closely connected to the wider multidisciplinary team.

The role will include:

  • Undertaking holistic mental health assessments, including risk, strengths, functioning, physical health and social circumstances.

  • Developing collaborative formulations, care plans and safety plans.

  • Providing brief, evidence-informed interventions and agreed follow-up.

  • Holding and reviewing an appropriate caseload in line with the needs of the service.

  • Liaising with GP surgeries, primary care mental health practitioners, CMHTs, social care and voluntary and community organisations.

  • Supporting people to access the clinical, practical and community resources best placed to meet their needs.

  • Contributing to multidisciplinary discussions, allocation processes and decisions about onward referral or discharge.

  • Working across North Birmingham and from other Trust, primary care or community locations when required, subject to service need.

  • Maintaining clear clinical records and communicating plans effectively across services.

  • Contributing to clinical governance, service development and the learning of students and colleagues.

Contacts may be undertaken remotely or from Trust, primary care and community settings, according to clinical and service need.
