Job summary

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our team as a Fellow in Paediatric Colorectal Surgery, working at the Great North Children's Hospital.

This post is available from November 2026 for 12 months.The Royal College of Surgeons England (RCSEng) Paediatric Colorectal fellowship is designed for a period of 12 months. Main duties of the job

This year will offer specific training in advanced colorectal surgery with Miss Victoria Lane and Mr Thomas Middleton and would be suitable for a trainee who has completed general training and wishes to achieve a final year acquiring Advanced Laparoscopic Skills before Consultant appointment.

In particular, you will experience Laparoscopic approaches to children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and be expected at the completion of this post to be able to perform resection of bowel affected by Crohn's disease laparoscopically. You will be able to complete Laparoscopic Colectomy with minimal supervision. You will understand the steps in Laparoscopic Restorative Proctocolectomy (ileal pouch anal anastomosis, IPAA), and be competent to perform this major procedure under supervision.

In addition, you will gain experience in Laparoscopic assisted transanal pullthrough for Hirschsprung disease and the surgical management of anorectal malformations/cloaca and idiopathic constipation.

Ward assessment and management of elective and emergency admissions. Experience in neonatal surgical and intensive care unit. Three elective operating lists and 2 outpatient sessions per week.   • Must hold full GMC registration at time of application
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • MRCS or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Other relevant qualifications (ALS, ATLS, PALS).

  • Competence at advanced cardio-respiratory arrest resuscitation in children (including team leadership).
