Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical Coder / Document Administrator to join our Administration and Coding Team on a bank contract basis.

The postholder will accurately review, extract and record clinical information within EMIS Web, supporting patient safety, data quality and healthcare performance targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document Processing: Review and action all incoming electronic correspondence (e.g., hospital discharge summaries, clinic letters, A&E reports) via EMIS Web.
  • Clinical Coding: Identify and extract diagnoses, procedures, medication changes, and test results, accurately assigning the correct SNOMED CT codes to patient records.
  • Workflow Management: Safely file non-clinical data and direct urgent actions or medication changes to the appropriate GP or clinician.
  • Medical Summarising: Accurately summarise new patient paper records into the electronic EMIS system when required.
  • Data Quality: Identify inconsistencies or missing information in clinical letters and liaise with clinical staff to resolve them.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure absolute confidentiality and adhere strictly to NHS Information Governance, GDPR, and safeguarding protocols.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the Administration and Coding Team Hub supporting the Cumbria Health practices. The post holder will be responsible for a variety of administration duties including data input, work flowing and coding of clinical correspondence. The post holder will code all incoming discharge letters and any patient related incoming post into the patients medical record and workflow to the appropriate clinician.

The post holder will be based at Cumbria Health headquarters in Carlisle. Remote working is optional.
