Job summary
Scope of the roleo Provide exceptional patient care which is underpinned by the best evidence based practice andOUH values.o Work in partnership with the patients' family and friends, and to be actively involved in the caringprocess on behalf of the patient where agreed.o Manage, direct and evaluate the nursing care for a defined caseload of patients.o Communicate effectively with patients/relatives/carers and all members of the multi-disciplinaryteam.o Maintain and develop high standards of nursing care, reflecting the professional nursing practiceand patient care commensurate with the OUH values.o Maintain and develop general and specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the clinicalarea.o Conduct oneself in a professional manner and be a role model to others at all timescommensurate with The Code (NMC 2015).o Develop skills to provide senior nurse cover for the department in the absence of the Sister orCharge Nurse or their deputy.o Work proactively to ensure every hospital visit meets the needs of the patient and that patientsare discharged in a timely manner ensuring effective communication with the family and/orrelevant agencies as planned and agreed.
Main duties of the job
Professional Practiceo Ensure clinical practice is evidence based or peer reviewed "best practice".o Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide person centred,evidence based nursing care.o With supervision and assistance, take on increased responsibility (for example being a namednurse), recognising own limitations and seeking help appropriately.o Set and maintain standards of practice, conduct and decision making commensurate with TheCode (NMC 2015).Page 3 of 8o Be competent in the use of all relevant Trust information technology (IT) systems including theuse of electronic patient records (EPR), email and associated professional media ensuring thatdata is entered in an accurate and timely fashion, in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.o Engage in and promote a paper light approach to information management.o Maintain use of email and other modes of communication in order to keep abreast of informationdisseminated across the Trust.o Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of accountability, responsibility and duty of care.Work towards the provision of support and education for less experienced and non-registeredstaff on the implications for practice.
