Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for either a newly or recently qualified B7 Clinical Psychologist looking for a post with potential career progression to join the Isle of Wight Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) under a Preceptorship development programme (the progression to a Band 8a would be subject to the successful completion of required competencies to a satisfactory trust standard).

We would also welcome applications from Band 8a Clinical Psychologists. Based on relevant experience, the post can be offered as a B7 Preceptorship arrangement or Band 8a.

You will deliver specialist psychological assessments and therapy, for individuals, groups and families as well as consultation to other professionals. You will be working with an established psychological team that operates within a wider multi-disciplinary service to deliver a range of therapies including but not exclusive to CBT, systemic therapy, psychotherapy, creative therapy and EMDR.

There are many and varied opportunities for personal development and clinical specialism within the role. Examples of such opportunities include training as a clinical supervisor, lecturing or becoming a personal mentor through our links with the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Course at Southampton University, undertaking leadership training and qualifications with the Trust Leadership Programme, and undertaking clinical research through linking with NHS research groups.

Main duties of the job

Your post will be to deliver psychological interventions and deliver group interventions and trainings. You will support the Consultant Psychologist in developing psychological thinking within the team and undertaking service development and quality improvement projects. You will lead new psychological initiatives within the service and actively grow the psychological skills of other team members. You will provide clinical supervision to Assistant Psychologists, doctoral trainees and/or qualified Psychological Therapists.

The service recognises the importance of receiving regular supervision and of continued professional development and actively supports your training and study.The service is committed to ensuring caseloads are set at a level that enables you to have admin and preparation time for clinical sessions, supporting you to provide the highest quality of care.

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK], including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as approved by the HCPC.
  • Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Additional for Band 8a:
  • Professional knowledge acquired through doctoral training, supplemented by post qualification short specialist courses and further specialist training/specialist clinical experience & clinical supervision.
