Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow (FY2-ST1) to work as part of the General Surgical team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The post will provide training opportunities in Breast, upper GI and lower GI.

The postholder will be responsible for the care of inpatients and day patients under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons including elective in-patient and day case surgery, general and specialist outpatient clinics and regular ward work.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for day-to-day care of General Surgery in-patients.

Working under the supervision of allocated Consultants.

Attendance at Outpatient Clinics (Upper & Lower GI)

Care of any General Surgery patients in Intensive Care.

Attendance at Elective and CEPOD Theatre lists.

On call on rota 1:8, full shift pattern, compliant with European Working Time Directive

Attend weekly clinical team meetings; teaching sessions; monthly

M&M/Governance meetings.

Participation in any research activities of the department is encouraged.

Any other appropriate duties as directed by the Consultant Surgeons.

The Department has a commitment to the career progression of Career Grade Doctors and skills required for specialist aspects of the post which will be developed within the post, particularly working towards passing the MRCS examination if not already held

The post would suit a surgeon who has worked at foundation or core surgical training grade for at least 2 years who wishes to continue to maintain and gain experience in a variety of general surgical specialties. The successful applicant will provide a clinical service at FY2-ST1 level, working closely with the Senior Clinical Fellows/Deanery trainees, Clinical Fellows/CTs and Foundation doctors under the supervision of the Consultants.

The successful applicant will participate in the general surgery 1:8 resident on-call full shift rota. We have had excellent feedback regarding the training opportunities in emergency surgery that this rota provides.
