Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking GP to join our friendly and supportive team at Haslemere Health Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a well-established, forward-thinking practice serving 19,000 patients across our main site based within the grounds of Haslemere Hospital and our branch surgery in Fernhurst.

We pride ourselves on being a welcoming, collaborative practice with a strong multidisciplinary team including GPs, nurses, paramedics, pharmacist, pharmacy technicians, physiotherapist, mental health practitioner and healthcare assistants. We would warmly welcome both newly qualified GPs and more experienced clinicians, and we are happy to support portfolio working and special interests.

Main duties of the job

This is a fixed-term contract for maternity cover. The duration is expected to be approximately 12 months but may vary depending on the return date of the substantive postholder.

The post-holder will undertake a full range of GP duties in line with the practice timetable, including:

  • Holding a patient list
  • Routine and same day appointments
  • Face-to-face and telephone consultations
  • Managing patient queries and clinical correspondence in a timely manner
  • Home visits where appropriate
  • Reviewing and signing repeat prescriptions
  • Making autonomous clinical decisions for undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations
  • Assessing patient health needs and managing acute and chronic conditions
  • Screening for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developing and implementing patient care plans in line with best practice and guidelines
  • Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical records
  • Prescribing in accordance with local and national guidance
  • Contributing to audit, quality improvement and practice development initiatives

In general, the post-holder will undertake all duties expected of a GP working in primary care.

While this role is initially offered on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity cover, there may be opportunities for a permanent position in the future, subject to practice requirements.

About us

Haslemere Health Centre is a large, purpose-built practice located in a beautiful semi-rural area. We support approximately 19,000 patients and offer a wide range of services through a diverse and highly skilled multidisciplinary team.

We work closely with West of Waverley Primary Care Network and Surrey & Sussex Integrated Care Board, providing opportunities for wider collaboration, development, and shared learning.

We are a supportive and forward-thinking training practice with a strong focus on teamwork, staff wellbeing, and continuous improvement. We place a strong emphasis on delivering continuity of care to our patients, enabling GPs to build lasting relationships and provide personalised, high-quality care. We are also committed to reducing GP workload where possible, with strong administrative support in place to assist with tasks such as prescriptions and referrals, helping to minimise administrative burden and enable clinicians to focus on patient care.
