Trust Doctor ST3+ in Oral Maxillo-Facial SurgerySt Richard's Hospital, Chichester (Cross-site)
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint Specialty Doctors/Dentists in Oral Surgery based at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester.
This is a cross-site role, with clinical activity also delivered at Worthing Hospital and potentially at Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Working alongside six Consultant colleagues, you will contribute to a high-quality oral surgery service for patients across West Sussex and surrounding areas. Duties include outpatient clinics, minor oral surgery under local anaesthesia, assisting Consultant operating lists, and participation in the on-call service.
You will manage a broad range of oral and maxillofacial presentations within a supportive, Consultant-led and clinically governed environment.
We are looking for motivated clinicians with relevant experience in oral surgery/OMFS, excellent teamwork skills, and a commitment to high standards of patient care.

Main duties of the job
Dedicated Maxillofacial Outpatient facilities are available in both Chichester and Worthing with access to full Radiology (including Cone Beam CT), Histology and Cytology services. We have 2 Trios Intra-oral scanners and a business case is currently being considered for 3D printing, to start the process towards digital workflow with the in-house maxillofacial laboratory.
In-patient activity is centred in Chichester in a recently built Treatment Centre, with additional operating facilities in both Worthing and Southlands. There is a separate well equipped Day Case Unit in Chichester.
We have five very experienced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialty Coordinators/secretaries who provide excellent administrative support and first line contact with patients

Job responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
- The appointees will share responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to the patients presenting to the department
- The appointees will support the clinical decision making of junior medical and dental staff
- The appointees will take part in a 1:6 on-call rota weekdays and weekends. The rota will be shared between 3/4 Specialty Doctors and 2/3 Specialist Registrars. They will be non-resident on-call overnight and will have days off after the night/weekend in-call.
- The appointees will supervise A/E clinics undertaken by DCTs when they are daytime on-call
Education and training:
The appointees will assist and participate in the development of postgraduate training for DCTs, SpRs, and other staff as appropriate
Audit
The appointee will promote evidence based practice, respond appropriately to NICE guidance and change their own and others clinical practice in response to new clinical developments
The post holder will undertake and supervise relevant clinical audit topics
They will be involved in risk management and quality assurance
The appointee should remain up to date and engaged in CME/CPD as per GDC guidelines
They should respond appropriately to complaints and critical incidents
The post holder will be expected to take part in Trust Clinical Governance meetings.
Learning and Development:
The post holder will be expected to attend mandatory training updates as required.
The post holder will undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process.
They will achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
The post holder will be expected to identify their own learning needs and jointly plan their training requirements with their line manager
They will participate in the Trusts appraisal process to discuss how their role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service.
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
