Main duties of the job
As an NHS 111 Clinical Practitioner youll Bring:
- Autonomous clinical assessment skills and experience managing complex, common urgent care presentations.
- Registered Nurse, Paramedic or Pharmacist (NMC, HCPC, GPhC) with prescribing rights
- Evidence of robust clinical decision-making and risk management
- Excellent communication skills, able to negotiate, explain and support patients and carers
- Confidence using telephony-based clinical triage and digital systems

Purpose of the Role
The post holder will provide autonomous, high-quality clinical assessment and care to patients contacting NHS 111, including infants, children, pregnant women, dental concerns and mental health presentations. Using evidence-based practice and professional standards, the role provides telephone and digital clinical assessment, treatment, discharge and onward referral to ensure patients receive the right care, at the right time and in the right place.
The role supports urgent and emergency care, promotes patient safety, reduces unnecessary A&E and face-to-face attendances and ambulance dispatches, and improves patient outcomes through sound clinical decision-making and prescribing skills.

Key Areas of Responsibility & AccountabilityClinical- Provide telephone-based clinical care and advice to NHS 111 callers using the Pathways Clinical Consultation System (PaCCS). Assess patients and provide appropriate self-care advice, prescriptions or onward referral.
- Practise autonomously without direct supervision, maintaining a controlled, professional, compassionate and respectful approach.
- Use robust clinical knowledge to validate ambulance, Emergency Department and other patient care outcomes generated through NHS 111.
- Complete callbacks to healthcare professionals and ambulance crews at the scene where required.
- Promote self-care where clinically appropriate.
- Ensure all patient contacts are documented accurately and promptly in line with service standards and professional requirements.
- Work within your skills, knowledge, training and capability, recognising limitations and complying with regulatory codes of conduct.
- Maintain awareness of developments in clinical practice and use advanced communication skills to provide evidence-based healthcare advice.
