Job summary

City & Hackney CAMHS are excited to be recruiting to 1 x full time post as Educational Mental Health Practitioner in the Schools Support Team. This service commenced in September 2019 and it has now received funding to increase the number of MHSTs in City & Hackney WAMHS service.

In line with the government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.

The successful candidate will be offered a full-time educational programme specifically for the role. The course fees are fully funded, and the salary support for the job post will be funded at NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) at beginning Band 4. You will gain credits towards completing with a postgraduate degree diploma level qualification, with potential for employment on completion of training with a starting salary projected to be based on the NHS AfC Band scale. Re-banding to Band 5 will be subject to successful completion of diploma

NB. A permanent position cannot be guaranteed within City & Hackney CAMHS post qualification, however it may be possible depending on the service needs at that time.

Main duties of the job

For the training year, the successful candidate will be employed by City & Hackney CAMHS, East London Foundation Trust and located in educational and healthcare settings across City & Hackney.

To enable this, it is desirable for applicants to demonstrate in their application the ability to study at undergraduate level and have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health. Further to that, experience of working with children and young people and an understanding of the educational system in England is highly desirable.

We are keen to encourage members of the local City and Hackney community to apply for these positions so applications will also be considered based on work experience in school settings, youth, and family support/mental health sectors. We particularly welcome applications from men and individuals from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds to strengthen the breadth of perspectives within our team.
