Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Patient Services at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 3 Dispensary Support & Customer Support Assistant. The successful candidate will be joining a supportive, diverse and inclusive team where no two days are the same and where your ideas and experience will be genuinely valued!
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based at the inpatient pharmacy reception, acting as the first point of contact for queries from nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team. They will be a visible and approachable representative of the pharmacy service, providing advice and support and acting as the first point of call for both pharmacy and non-pharmacy staff
The post holder will be responsible for undertaking stock management activities as well as housekeeping duties in the dispensary including thefiling of controlled drugs paperwork, audits and ordering consumables in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Job responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
To cover the inpatient pharmacy hatch, ensuring nurse and patient queries are answered professionally and efficiently. This will include handing out medication and Controlled Drugs in accordance to the relevant policies and procedures.
To carry out the filing of paperwork on a daily/weekly/monthly basis in accordance with the departmental archiving Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
To put away stocks delivered to the dispensary ensuring medicines are stored in the allocated locations only.
To maintain the dispensary fridges, ensuring they are clean and tidy so medicines can be easily located.
To undertake drug expiry date checks of stocks kept in the dispensary in accordance with departmental SOP.
To top-up sundries in the dispensary as needed.
To manage, co-ordinate and place the weekly order for sundries and non-drug lines to ensure adequate levels are maintained.
To chase any outstanding sundries orders and liaise with stores to organise alternatives in the event of interrupted supply.
To attend the weekly dispensary meetings and support minute taking for the dispensary manager.
To manage the part pack medication shelving, ensuring medication is condensed with the same batch numbers and expiry dates.
To keep the dispensary workstation drawers containing consumables and dispensing stickers clean and tidy.
To manage the dispensary fluid shelving, ensuring no bulky fluid boxes are on the floor or blocking corridors.
To monitor and review the contents of the Controlled Drug TTA cupboard on a weekly basis, ensuring CD signed copies are matched to TTAs and any uncollected prescriptions are returned to a senior technician in the CD room.
To carry out daily audits of Controlled Drug Signed Copies and ensure all electronic documentation is reconciled and escalate any errors to the Deputy Dispensary Manager accountable for CDs.
To carry out monthly IVIG cycle counts and highlight any discrepancies to the Senior Pharmacist Patient Services.
To support in the dispensing of medication when needed
To oversee the EDC (emergency drug cupboard) from a dispensary perspective, ensuring all medications used out of hours are charged to the relevant patient and ordered for re-stocking.
