Job summary

Are you an outstanding Specialty Doctor looking for your next challenge in psychiatry and a competitive salary?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialty Doctor to join the medical team at Cygnet Hospital Ealing, working on New Dawn Ward, our specialist 9-bed Tier 4 personality disorder service for women.

This is a full-time, permanent position offering the opportunity to develop specialist experience in the assessment and treatment of complex personality disorder within a psychologically informed and trauma-informed service.

You will work closely with an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist and highly skilled multidisciplinary team, while taking meaningful responsibility for the day-to-day psychiatric and medical care of patients.

New Dawn provides both short-term crisis intervention and longer-term therapeutic treatment using a model informed by the principles of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), including skills coaching and individual psychological therapy.

The role would particularly suit a doctor wishing to develop expertise in general adult psychiatry, complex trauma and personality disorder, psychologically informed care, complex risk management and Mental Health Act work, while progressing towards senior SAS or Consultant-level practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide routine medical and psychiatric support including initial clerking and mental state examination of newly admitted patients
  • Carry out the assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients of the unit.
  • Maintain good communication with ward nursing staff, mental health professionals and other agencies as required
  • Participate in weekly ward rounds and other multidisciplinary meetings, including CPA, Tribunal hearings & Section 117 meetings
  • Maintenance of full records of medical and psychiatric assessments and interventions
  • Preparing discharge summaries in line with company policies and guidelines
  • Attending all mandatory training e.g. BLS, ILS, Breakaway training/PMVA training, Moving and Transferring, Infection Control, H&S.
  • Communicating effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors, and any other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriate reports.
  • Participating in the On call rota in line with the needs of the region

Our Portfolio Pathway programme

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level and youll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.

Youll also have an educational supervisor to review your progress and oversee your development and youll receive support with MRCPsych exams.
