Job summary

We are looking to employ a Medical Receptionist to join our friendly practice team.

Experience of working in General Practice is desirable however not essential as full training will be provided. The role requires excellent communication skills, computer literacy , ability to work in a busy environment, and to work to deadlines. Candidates will be required to work additional hours when needed.

Main duties include point of contact on reception desk, answering telephones, booking appointments, dealing with prescription requests and general administration duties relevant to the role.

The position is for 20 hours per week over 5 days on a rolling am/pm shift rota between the hours of 8am-18.30pm

Brookvale Practice serves a population of approximately 8,700 patients and is based in Runcorn, Cheshire with excellent motorway links to Manchester, Liverpool, and North Wales.

We operate a Total Triage model, supporting safe, efficient, and timely access to care for our patients.

Our experienced and supportive clinical team includes:

10 GPs

1 Clinical Pharmacist

2 Practice Nurses

1 Nursing Associate

ARRS roles, including a Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician, and Mental Health Practitioner

2 GP Assistants

This is supported by 13 friendly and dedicated reception and administration staff.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a.Process and effectively signpost patients to the appropriate healthcare professional, depending on the presenting condition

b.Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately

c.Process personal, telephone and online requests for appointments

d.Action incoming emails and correspondence as necessary

e.Accurately detail information on patients records within the clinical system

f.Assist with total triage administration

g.Maintain and monitor the practice appointment system

h.Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients, team members and external agencies

i.Photocopy documentation as required

j.Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required

k.Direct requests for information, i.e., DSAR, insurance/solicitors letters and DVLA forms to the administrative team

l.Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner

m.Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested

n.Be an integral part of the general practice team

o.Act as a chaperone as required

p.Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on safeguarding adults and safeguarding children

q.Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements

r.Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes

s.Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

t.Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
