As a Hospice Nurse Specialist Manager, you will provide operational, professional and clinical leadership for the Hospice Nurse Specialist Service over 7 days per week, ensuring the delivery of safe, responsive, compassionate and high-quality specialist palliative and end of life care across Wigan Borough. We welcome applications from registered healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills and experience required to lead this specialist service. While the role has traditionally been undertaken by experienced nurses, we are also keen to hear from applicants from other professional backgrounds who are practising at an advanced level and can demonstrate the capabilities and competencies required for the role.
If you are an existing member of the NHS Pension Scheme, your membership may be transferable to this post, provided pension contributions have been made within the previous 12 months.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is accountable for the day-to-day management, performance and development of the Hospice Nurse Specialist team, ensuring effective workforce planning, governance, quality assurance and service improvement. The role maintains an advanced level of clinical practice through the management of a complex patient caseload, providing specialist assessment, symptom management, prescribing and clinical decision-making whilst acting as an expert resource for colleagues and partner organisations.

- Independent prescribing qualification is essential for this role

Working Pattern
This is a 37-hour per week role, working Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. On rare occasions, weekend cover may be required, depending on staffing levels.
