Job summary
Spencer Private Hospitals (SPH) is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Anaesthetic Practitioner to join our busy theatre team. Working within our independent healthcare setting, you will play an important role in delivering safe, high-quality care to patients undergoing a wide range of elective surgical procedures.
You will have the opportunity to work across a varied range of elective surgical specialities, utilising a variety of anaesthetic techniques. Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary theatre team, you will contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while continuing to develop your clinical skills and experience.
Interview Date: TBC
30 Hours a week. Other Part-time hours considered. Hours are worked across a 7 day working rota. Please specify your preference on the application form.
We offer enhancements for Saturdays and any work between 8pm and 7.30am on weekdays at time +30% of your basic salary rate. For Sundays and Bank Holidays at time + 60% of your basic salary rate.
Main duties of the job
To aid in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care throughout the operating department. Working within defined policies and procedures, implementing and evaluating pathways of care for the patient within the perioperative setting. Under the direction of the senior staff, liaise with medical, nursing, ancillary staff and other departments to ensure the timely delivery of patient care.
Qualifications and Experience
Registered Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Nurse with recognised Anaesthetic course
HCPC/NMC Registered
Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care
Knowledge of research and evidence-based practice
Catalyst for change
Knowledge of CQC
Ability work as a member of the team
Dealing with emergency situations within operating theatre department
Highly developed physical/clinical skills where accuracy is important

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
To participate as members of a multidisciplinary team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised patient care. Demonstrating the ability to competently formulate and deliver care without direct supervision.
Carry out daily preparation and maintenance of anaesthetic equipment: anaesthetic machine; difficult airway trolley; video laryngoscope; cardiac arrest trolley and complete the appropriate documentation. Identify and report faults, following local policies.
Provide skilled anaesthetic assistance to the Consultant Anaesthetist.
Participate, provide support and resuscitation skills as a member of the resuscitation team, if required. Ensure skills are kept up to date.
Organise and deliver patient care, and equipment, during inter-department patient transfers. Provide clear and concise handovers.
Facilitate patient positioning ensuring to protect pressure areas, completing body maps appropriately.
Support the wider theatre team, as required, within your scope of practise.
Quality
They will ensure that standards are met as per national and local guidelines, including National Frameworks.
Is wholly accountable for their practice, in line with the NMC code/HCPC standards, and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve their knowledge and professional standards.
To ensure all written documentation is in accordance with Hospital and NMC code/HCPC standards.
Adhering to WHO guidelines and maintaining patient safety throughout the peri-operative environment.
To report promptly any accidents, incidents, complaints or unplanned occurrences to the Theatre Leads and be competent in using the Datix system of incident reporting.
To participate in staff Personal Development Discussions and the identification of personal needs and set and evaluate personal objectives
To participate in in-house training sessions and attend meetings and discussions when required
Adheres to pharmaceutical codes of practice to include preparation, custody, ordering and documentation relating to controlled and prescribed drugs, as professionally qualified to do so, in line with local and national policies.

To report any reductions in stock levels, breakages and faulty equipment and to maintain stock.
Infection Control
To undertake all mandatory and essential training in Infection Prevention and Control.
To familiarise themselves with and adhere to current Infection Prevention and Control policies relevant to them and their area of work.
To communicate any identified infection risks to the Infection Prevention and Control leads and where appropriate report any Healthcare Associated Infections in line with SPHs Incident Reporting Policy
