Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and dynamic Registered Nurse, or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)to join our Radiology team as InterventionalRadiology Clinical Lead.

This is a key leadership role within a busy interventional radiology service. The successful candidate will provide visible clinical leadership, supporting the day-to-day operational management of the service while maintaining a strong focus on patient experience, quality improvement, staff development and wellbeing.

The primary focus of the role will be leading the Interventional Radiology nursing team, ensuring the provision of safe, effective and compassionate care for patients undergoing a wide range of interventional procedures. The post holder will provide oversight for the IR service - including the pre-assessment of the patients, the management of the daycase unit and the day-to-day running of the interventional radiology unit. There will be a need to work clinically within each of the three area (the pre-operative service, the day case unit and in the interventional radiology environment).

This is a fast-paced, highly specialised and hands-on role requiring excellent clinical skills, sound judgement and the ability to effectively manage complex situations. The successful candidate will be experienced in interventional radiology practice or a similar interventional speciality and demonstrate strong technical, organisational and leadership capabilities.

Main duties of the job

In addition to maintaining high standards of clinical practice, the Radiology Clinical Lead will be responsible for workforce planning and management, ensuring safe staffing levels, risk assessment and mitigation, staff training and development, competency management, rostering and supporting service improvements. The post holder will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of a responsive, patient-centred service.

In addition to weekday working, participation in the Interventional Radiology on-call rota is required, providing evening, overnight and weekend cover as part of the role.

  • Support the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care in line with Trust values
  • Lead, support and develop a skilled multidisciplinary team
  • Contribute to service delivery, performance management and patient flow
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation and transformation within Radiology
  • Ensure compliance with IR(ME)R, health and safety standards and governance requirements
  • Support staff through supervision, appraisal, and professional development
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust to improve patient pathways

You will be an approachable and visible leader, promoting a culture where staff feel supported, valued and empowered.
