Job summary

Full time medical receptionist/care navigator, to cover maternity leave for one year on a fixed term contract, in a busy inner city GP practice in Leeds 6. Experience preferred but full training will be given. This is a varied and interesting role supporting the clinical team to deliver high quality care for our patients. Applicants should be enthusiastic, caring and conscientious and be able to work well as part of a team. You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills. Applicants must understand the principles of confidentiality and be keen to represent the surgery in a sensitive, friendly, efficient and competent manner.

The successful applicant's hours will be Monday to Friday, 8.30-15.45 including one late shift, 10.45- 18.30 on a Tuesday.

Main duties of the job

The receptionist is the first line of contact with our patients and visitors. This is a varied role that includes face to face and telephone contact with patients as well as administrative duties.

You will work as part of the receptionist team maintaining an efficient service for the patients, doctors and nurses.

Reception experience and customer service is desirable, but training will be give to the successful candidate.

About us

Hyde Park Surgery is a busy inner city GP practice in Leeds 6 with approximately 11,000 patients. There are four partners in the practice. We also have three salaried GPs. Our nursing team consists of three practice nurses and two health care assistants. The team provides an holistic and collaborative approach to health care provision. Our Practice Manager works part time and is supported by the Assistant Practice Manager. We have a hard working and dedicated team of receptionists who are supported by the Reception Manager.

To represent Hyde Park Surgery in a sensitive, friendly, efficient and competent manner as the first point of contact for patients & health care professionals.

Care navigate & make appointments using S1clinical system, by telephone or at the desk

  • Indicate on the clinical system when patients arrive so that clinicians are aware patients are waiting
  • Check all samples are ready for path lab and entered on clinical system
  • Open post, stamp as appropriate & distribute as necessary
  • Process tasks and emails from inside and outside the practice
  • Process electronic, online and paper prescriptions requests
  • Ensure any urgent prescriptions are processed and signed by the end of the day
  • Take requests for home visits & enter the full information required on the clinical system & print visit summary
  • Take messages and enter on to message template on clinical system. Ensure any urgent messages are dealt with as soon as possible
  • Contact patients, hospital departments or other agencies at doctors request
  • Scan hospital correspondence and process electronic documents
  • Process pathology results
  • Process medical records deductions and new patient records
  • Process changes of patient details
  • Undertake general office duties relevant to the surgery
  • Contact patients due for chronic disease reviews
  • Process new patient registrations
  • Any other duties necessary to assist the smooth running of the surgery
