Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist to join our dedicated Paediatric Therapy Team in Surrey. In this rewarding role, you will manage a specialist caseload of children and young people with complex needs, delivering high-quality, evidence-based assessment and intervention to help them achieve their full potential. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with families, schools and healthcare professionals to develop child-centred therapy plans, provide specialist advice and support, and contribute to positive outcomes for children and young people. You will also play a key role in supporting service development, supervising junior staff and students, and driving excellent clinical practice across the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a specialist caseload of children and young people with complex needs, delivering high-quality assessments and evidence-based therapy interventions.
  • Develop, implement and review individualised therapy plans to maximise outcomes across home, educational and community settings.
  • Provide specialist advice, support and training to families, carers, schools and multi-agency professionals.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary assessments, diagnoses and care planning, including preparing specialist reports and recommendations.
  • Supervise, support and develop junior therapists, assistants and students, including line management responsibilities.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, monitor outcomes and ensure practice aligns with professional standards and best practice.
  • Participate in service development, quality improvement, audit and research activities.
  • Support service leadership activities, including deputising for senior colleagues when required and contributing to the ongoing development of paediatric therapy services.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent recognised qualification) in Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
  • Current HCPC registration and membership of the relevant professional body.
  • Minimum 2 years' post-graduate experience within a paediatric therapy setting.
  • Experience managing children with a range of complex needs and using standardised assessment tools.
  • Strong knowledge of current best practice and relevant legislation.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and delivering training to others.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable

  • Specialist post-graduate training relevant to paediatric therapy.
  • Experience supervising or line managing staff, students or assistants.
  • Membership of relevant specialist interest groups or clinical networks.
  • Experience delivering training to parents, schools and other professionals.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and service improvement activity.
