Job summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate senior nurse with a genuine interest in Parkinson's disease to join our small team providing expert care for patients living with PD. This is an exciting opportunity to provide a high standard of care and support for our patients., ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice and patient experience.
As a specialist nurse you will act as a clinical expert, advocate, educator and point of contact for patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals supported by the wider PD team. You will work closely with medical, nursing, therapy, pharmacy and community teams to optimise patient outcomes and promote evidence-based Parkinson's care across the organisation.
You will be supported by our specialist Parkinson's disease team led by our Consultant geriatrician and consultant nurse
Main duties of the job
The inpatient Parkinson's disease specialist nurse provides expert clinical leadership and specialist nursing care for patients with Parkinson's disease during hospital admission. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely assessment, optimal symptom management, safe medication administration and high quality patient centred care. They will act as a key resource for patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals, promoting best practice, delivering education and training, and supporting service development to improve outcomes and experiences for our patients living with Parkinson's disease. They will provide specialist advice across the Trust for teams who refer patients through the Ereferral system. They will work closely with the community Parkinson's disease nurse specialists and provide cross cover when needed. They will have an interest in quality improvement and will play a key part in driving initiatives like 'Get It On Time' forward trustwide.
About us
The Parkinson's team are a small but highly experienced and compassionate group led by our dynamic consultant geriatrician and supported by our nurse consultant. The team includes the community Parkinson's disease nurse specialist who support our patients in their own homes.

Essential
- First level Registered Nurse with current registration with the NMC
- Leadership training (LEO/LPC) or equivalent experience
- Teaching qualification
Desirable
- Prescribing/ability to work within PGDs
- Specialist Diploma level/ specialist practitioner or equivalent
- Evidence of CPD in management of Long Term Conditions
- Non-medical V300 prescribing or willingness to undertake.
- Post graduate qualification in a health related topic
- Specialist qualification in neurological nursing
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Relevant post registration work within acute, mental health or community and primary care nursing fields.
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and/or multi agency team.
- Evidence of ability to direct and co-ordinate programmes of care, working autonomously and collaboratively.
- Evidence of being an innovative practitioner.
- A minimum of 2 years at Band 6 or above.
- Experience of self care/ self management.
- Managing cognitive impairment.
- Post registration experience of patients with neurological diagnoses.
