Job summary

We are looking for a caring, reliable and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly GP practice team. The successful candidate will work alongside GPs, nurses and other members of the practice team to provide high-quality, patient-centred care.

The hours ideally would be 30 hours per week, however we are happy to have a discussion with the right person.

Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Assistant will undertake a range of clinical and administrative duties within their level of competence and training, helping to support the practice in delivering safe and effective healthcare to our patients.

About us

We are a friendly, forward thinking Practice who provide care to over 9000 patients in the local area. We are also a training practice helping to train new GP's.

Job description
Job responsibilities

  • Welcome and communicate with patients in a professional, friendly and respectful manner.
  • Undertake clinical observations, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, height, weight and BMI.
  • Carry out blood tests/phlebotomy.
  • Perform ECGs and other basic clinical investigations as required.
  • Undertake urine testing and other specimen collection in accordance with practice procedures.
  • Delivering vaccination programmes, such as seasonal flu, in line with clinic protocols.
  • Support the nursing team with health checks, NHS Health Checks and long-term condition monitoring.
  • Assist with chronic disease monitoring, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and respiratory conditions, within agreed protocols and competence.
  • Carry out wound care and dressings where appropriately trained.
  • Support patients with health promotion and preventative care.
  • Ensure specimens are correctly labelled, stored and transported according to practice procedures.
  • Record clinical information accurately and promptly in the patient's medical record.
  • Prepare clinical rooms and equipment, ensuring they are clean, safe and adequately stocked.
  • Clean and maintain equipment in accordance with infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Follow practice policies relating to infection control, safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and information governance.
  • Recognise and report any concerns regarding a patient's health or wellbeing to an appropriate clinician.
  • Support the wider practice team with appropriate administrative and clinical duties.
