Job summary

The successful applicant will support the delivery of our county-wide Urology service, based upon and established hub and spoke model. The Department is recognised as holding Specialist MDT status for the management of patients with complex Urological cancer.

Urological Services are supported by the Worcestershire Oncology Centre, who offer a full repertoire of treatment and support for patients diagnosed with Urological malignancy, delivering 24/7 out of hours Oncological support. Similarly, Countywide Interventional Radiology Services are closely integrated with our teams. Most interventional Uro-radiology is undertaken on the Alexandra site and there is seamless access to interventional vascular services at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Local renal services provide outreach support to our department, who also enjoy excellent links with the renal dialysis unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

It is an exciting time to join the Urology department within Worcestershire, as we progress through the Trusts Clinical Services strategy. The trust will soon be replacing existing theatre infrastructure with a new 4 operating department complex housing ultraclean-laparoscopic enabled and robotic suites. Novel surgical techniques for treatment of BPH are to be implemented in addition to enhanced community Urology services, delivered in collaboration with our system partners.

The advert will close early if there is a high number of applications.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will offer high quality day to day care to Urology and General Surgery patients at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, and deliver a first class clinical service which will primarily include ward based care of both elective and emergency patients.

The clinical activities for all FY1 doctors include:

-Presence and participation on daily ward round in the morning

-Presence and participation in the afternoon board round

-Providing a high level of ward based care to all patients

-Liaising with other specialties to ensure safe and prompt medical management of our patients

The on call commitment at FY1 level will be resident and will include a 1:9 for days and 1:9 for nights on call weekend with associated oncall commitments during the week. Oncall commitments will encompass assisting with morning rounds, new emergency admissions and ward patient reviews out of hours.
