Job summary
We are looking for podiatrists with a keen interest in NHS health care where prevention and self help strategies is key to foot health and general health and wellbeing. If you are interested in working in a supportive team environment, developing life long skills in the management of a diverse caseload where patients have high risk health conditions, we would like to hear from you. You need to show resilience, initiative and an aptitude for patient-centred, structured care planning with empathetic communication skills, including reviewing of caseload and discharging patients.
This is a development post (band 5 to band 6) and would suit podiatrists already working in the NHS at band 5 level and a minimum of 12 month post graduate experience working as a podiatrist.
Main duties of the job
This is not an exhaustive list, please refer to job description.
Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients; goal setting with your patients; implement care plans including utilizing a variety of treatment modalities; signposting to health care and self-management advice; safety netting patients with feet at high risk; correspond with other services; work as part of a supportive team.
This post requires a podiatrist who will work as part of the team providing a high standard of clinical care in community clinic and home settings. The post holder will be expected to assess, diagnose, develop and implement individualized programs of care for patients with a wide variety of clinical needs. The post holder will also be expected to plan and manage their own caseload and work closely with senior colleagues in providing specialist care for patients with high foot risk.

The Podiatry Service in South Manchester has an excellent reputation for innovation and excellence and provides a caring, and supportive working environment for our staff. The Podiatry team work towards improving health, reducing inequality and providing the best services for a diverse population.The department provides specialist clinics in High Risk, Wound management, podopaediatrics, nail surgery and biomechanics.
South Manchester expect their Podiatrists to take a proactive approach to managing a diverse caseload of patients within our Podiatry Service, using a combination of physical skills and empowerment techniques to provide an effective partnership working with patients.
The successful candidate will require positive attitudes towards personal and professional development and must demonstrate how their experience and skills meet the criteria for this post as listed in the person specification in order for their application to be short listed.
Main duties of the job
To plan, deliver, evaluate and modify specialist programmes of care for patients with complex medical conditions /social needs, providing advice to patients and carers in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies involved.
To carry out the initial triage and assessment of patients referred to determine their acceptance into the service.
To be responsible for providing subsequent specialist assessments to assist in the determination of the medical/clinical diagnosis and formulation of treatment plans, utilising goals agreed with the patient.
To be actively involved in audit to ensure that treatment is evidenced based and to enable informed judgements regarding patient's care and service development to be made.

The service works closely with district nursing teams, tissue viability nurses, and local integrated teams. as well as linking with the wider MDT and PCN networks. We have a direct pathway into the Diabetic Foot Clinic at West Middlesex University Hospital.
Main duties of the job
In our vibrant and multi-cultural community, you will work from well-equipped clinic sites delivering care close to home. You will assess, diagnose, and provide high quality podiatric care to people with complex foot health needs and lower limbs that are at risk. There is emphasis on diabetes foot protection due to the high incidence of diabetes in the population we serve,
You will be responsible for agreeing care plans with patients that support self-management and optimise foot health, in line with service priorities, and you will be expected to manage complex patients at an advanced level.
You will be required to visit housebound patients in their own homes, so you must be able to drive and have access to a car to support their needs.
You will work autonomously as well as alongside others, so you need to be flexible and well organised. You will be responsible for managing other people's workload so need to be great at teamworking and problem solving. You will also need excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with our diverse patient population and with various other health care teams and stakeholders.

This is an exciting time to join the Surrey Downs Health and Care Podiatry Team as we continue to develop, transform and evolve our podiatry services for the future, offering the successful candidate a valuable opportunity to help shape and influence service delivery. We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and forward-thinking Band 7 Team Lead Podiatrist to become part of our progressive and supportive community-based service in Surrey.
The successful candidate will work across a variety of settings, including community clinics and domiciliary visits, managing a diverse caseload and providing treatment for a wide range of podiatric conditions. This role offers flexibility to develop a specialist interest, whether in MSK, Wound care, Diabetes, Nail surgery, or General podiatry.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role includes leadership duties such as teaching, mentoring and supervising both students and qualified podiatrists, as well as undertaking line management responsibilities. We are seeking a candidate who is reliable, motivated and committed to ongoing professional development, with strong organisational and communication skills, excellent time management and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Applicants must have experience managing high-risk patients and a proven background in community podiatry services. Experience in nail surgery is desirable.
Main duties of the job
- To lead and professionally support a team of podiatrists within Surrey Downs Health and Care.
- To lead in the evaluation, planning and implementation of service redesign and related policies and procedures, in liaison with podiatry clinical Lead and operational manager.
- To be integrally involved in the supporting both clinical lead and operational management of the podiatry service, embracing evidence-based medicine and developments in podiatric practice.
- To lead podiatry team based continuous professional development (CPD) activities, participate in podiatry service wide CPD activities, and participate in the development of the podiatry service and co-owners as a team of managers.
- To lead on clinical audits, service pilots/projects and other research activities to support the development of evidence based practice.
- To act as a source of clinical expertise and be the clinical lead for nail surgery within the Podiatry department, ensuring an effective, co-ordinated podiatry service is provided throughout the Surrey Downs Health and care area.

To work as an integral member of the Podiatry team to deliver high quality, innovative and responsive programmes of Podiatric care to patients who have a high risk need.
To provide early intervention whenever possible, to maintain mobility and independence, and prevent disability.
