Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join our Obstetric and gynaecology department at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. We are looking for a Trust Grade doctor level ST3 - 8 post due to previous post holders having gained training posts. It is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic team member to gain experience in a busy DGH. The post-holder will provide a level of service appropriate for a Speciality Doctor and will have Consultant supervision. The post-holder will work across sites on occasion with outpatient clinics at St. Margaret's Hospital and Herts and Essex Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work alongside our dynamic team and participate in our 1:14 registrar rota providing 2 registrar cover 24/7. We also support and provide additional training in fetal scanning, early pregnancy scanning and gynae procedures. This is an excellent opportunity to achieve additional hands on experience and develop your CV.

Post holder will be expected to participate in on call roll rota.

About us

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology consists of an integral maternity and gynaecology unit on a single site, based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Inpatients are based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, while clinics are held at Princess Alexandra Hospital, St Margaret's Hospital (Epping) and Herts & Essex Hospital, (Bishop's Stortford).

The vital statistics for the unit are as follows:

  • Number of deliveries: 3900 (2021)
  • Caesarean Section rate: 21% (2021)

Labour ward is made up of nine delivery rooms, all with ensuite with two integrated theatres. There is a Midwifery led Birthing Unit co-located with the labour ward, each delivery room is equipped with high tech birthing pool.

There is a dedicated foetal medicine unit, Early pregnancy unit and gynae ambulatory unit. A Level 2 NICU supports the maternity unit.

To perform the normal duties expected of a middle grade doctor working within a district general hospital, this includes participation in the registrar on call rota. This will also include general gynaecology clinics, antenatal clinics and labour ward.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCOG part 1

Desirable

  • MRCOG part 2 and 3
  • Higher degree (PhD or Master)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of Audit and Quality Improvement

Skills

Essential

  • Experience of teaching & supervising junior medical staff.

Desirable

  • Commitment to support research and development within the Trust R&D policy
