Job summary

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our Emergency Department (ED) team. This post is offered from September 2024 within the ED of Birmingham Children's Hospital, to replace a retiring member of the consultant team. The post comprises 10 programmed activities with a commitment to 1:6 weekends on duty for the ED.

Main duties of the job

Birmingham Children's Hospital is a large, multidisciplinary, dedicated children's hospital. The ED is one of the busiest paediatric EDs in the UK, with approximately 60,000 annual attendances across a broad case-mix, and it has the full support of all paediatric medical and surgical subspecialties. We are the Major Trauma Centre for children in the Birmingham area and West Midlands region.

Job responsibilities

You will be joining a friendly and dedicated team of 10 Consultants, 6 Specialty Doctors/Senior Clinical Fellows, 4 senior Specialist Trainees (from Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics), 9 ST2/3s, 2 GPVTS trainees and 2 Teaching Fellows. We are also proud of our ongoing development of Advanced Nursing Practice within the ED. As a university teaching hospital, we provide excellent opportunities for education, and there is an active research programme within our department.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oFull GMC Registration
  • oMBChB or equivalent
  • oMRCPH/FRCEM or equivalent
  • oOn Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview) for one of: 1.Emergency Medicine with dual accreditation in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (or equivalent recognised competence-based training). 2. General Paediatrics with subspecialty accreditation in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (or equivalent recognised competence-based training)

  • oHigher Degree (MD, PhD, etc)

Experience

  • oAppropriate progression of career to date
